We had the worst experience today at this place, got threatened and yelled at by the workers/managers, and treated with ultimate disrespect. The food is good but the management is terrible and super rude, and it the owner doesn’t formally apologize and hire decent workers, I will never go back.
Background: We’re first told that there’s no dinning in and we can only take out, with no further explanation. We checked other restaurants in the area then decided to come back to this restaurant to order a take away since we were really excited to try the feteer- we drove from NJ- after all the hype we heard. We were surprised when we came back that the lady at the cashier told us that we can actually dine in!! That was less than an hour after the same lady told us we can’t.
When we finally got to sit down, they refused to waive an arbitrary $20 per person minimum charge for a friend who was going to share the food with us since he wasn’t that hungry- we’re 7 people and we’re going to order more food than this anyway!!The cashier lady was really disrespectful and rude and annoying and she seemed to indirectly ask us to leave unless our friend pays. The situation somehow escalated quickly and another employee(manager?) with big muscles came in and ordered her in angry accent to shut down the dining in again - after we caused trouble?- and looked at us in a very intimidating way. We decided to not eat from there but since it was the only option for us at that time we decided to take out and leave.
My friend got his order and i was waiting for mine when that intimidating person exploded at us when my friend told him that we expected better hospitality and service especially that we drove so far to try the food here. We were still pissed off because of the way he and that lady treated us but he made it 100x worse by threatening to not give us our food- he said you’ve no food here and i will refund you- and yelling at us!!! I played it cool because we’re exhausted and hungry but I want to leave this review in the hope that the manager/owner of this place reads it and hire people who actually cate about the customer, not treat them as if they’re garbage. I will never recommend this place anymore to anyone and I will make sure everyone knows about how terrible and rude they’re to their customers until they apologize and hire people who actually care. It’s sad because the food is actually good and authentic and the feteer was really good especially after craving it for...
Read moreMy experience at Mum Feteer was nothing short of a nightmare. From the moment we walked in, it was clear that this place was a disaster waiting to happen.
The service was appalling. The waitstaff seemed completely disinterested in their jobs, barely acknowledging our presence and taking forever to take our order. When they finally did, their attitude was cold and unfriendly, as if they were doing us a favor by serving us.
But the real horror began when we noticed what was happening in the open kitchen. The chef, who seemed to be running the place, was openly yelling at the staff, hurling curses and insults at them without a care in the world. It was shocking to witness such blatant disrespect in a professional setting. The poor employees looked terrified and were clearly not working under any sort of proper management. It made us seriously question the legality of their employment, and the whole situation made the dining experience incredibly uncomfortable.
To make matters worse, we caught the chef screaming about an order while berating the staff in front of the few customers in the restaurant. It was so loud and aggressive that it completely ruined any chance of enjoying our meal.
As if the service and environment weren't bad enough, the restaurant had the audacity to include a mandatory gratuity on the bill, despite the fact that the service was some of the worst I've ever experienced. They even had the nerve to suggest we leave an additional tip. When we confronted the staff about the gratuity, we were met with hostility and defensiveness.
But the final straw came when we witnessed something utterly unforgivable: as our waiter was bringing out another table's food, we saw him spit into one of the dishes before setting it down. I was absolutely horrified and immediately lost my appetite. When we confronted him about what we saw, he flat-out denied it and acted as if we were the problem.
This place is beyond unacceptable. Not only is the environment toxic and the service atrocious, but there's also a complete lack of hygiene and professionalism. The fact that they're charging customers for this kind of experience is outrageous. Mum Feteer is a restaurant to avoid at all costs if you value your dignity and...
Read moreThis review is primarily about service. We haven’t tried the food.
On our quest for the best Egyptian feteer in the United States, and after visiting the The Dough Show in Orlando, FL, and The Feteer Guy in Huntington Beach, CA, we wanted to try out Mum Feteer. We were looking forward to trying it out, and we decided in our current visit to NYC to go all the way up from Manhattan to Astoria to indulge. However, what a great disappointment we ended up facing. We actually didn’t try the food, and I don’t know if we’ve been missing out on much. Whoever “greeted” us (referred to as “the guy” hereafter) seemed confused at first, so I asked him if they’re open and if they had a table for three. The restaurant was pretty much vacant, so there were plenty of tables. The guy offered us a table, that wasn’t clean, and we were like “okay.” But, because we had a little child, another corner table seemed a little more appropriate, so we started cleaning that, as well as the seats, so we can sit down and not have to deal with feteer crumbs on our clothes. Right as we finished cleaning, the guy came and asked if we have anyone else with us, and I was surprised that this was his first question, rather than asking if he could offer us any help, given that he just saw his patrons cleaning the tables and seats. So, I told him that it was just us. He clarified that the table and seats we just cleaned could take about six people, and maybe he had a point, but the restaurant was almost empty. So, I told him that we’d be more comfortable in that table, unless there’s another corner table. At that point, given that we came a very long way, and we were very hungry, I was in between thinking if we should clean another table and set of seats, or just leave and take our business somewhere else. We did start cleaning, and again the guy didn’t offer any help, so I immediately felt that we weren’t welcomed, so we decided to leave. We had to decide on the spot, given that we were hungry, and ended up going to a burger place close by, where they almost welcomed us with open arms.
To “the guy”: عيب عليك تكسفنا كدا وتسيبنا...
