Very disappointing considering ratings! The table was unstable had to be stabilized so our drinks wouldn't spill, with cardboard.. We ordered Salmon that came with rice and peas. The rice and peas was wayyy too spicy. We mentioned this to a waiter and his response was, "I just had some rice and peas and it was fine too me". First rule of thumb, as an employee never discredit or challenge the customers feelings! Just say sorry and ask what can be done to replace the item. (MAYBE WE GOT THE RICE WHERE THE SCOTCH BONNET BURST? š) The salmon was cooked though, lacked seasoning to taste and was not hot, as if freshly prepared. We also ordered the escoviched fish (parrot) served with fried dumplings and plantain. The fish needed seasoning, (salt and pepper for fried fish, please) thank goodness for the LITTLE BIT of escoviched seasoning that adorned the fish. The dumplings were fine, yet, I'm certain the plantain was over ripe, were extremely soft and mushy, full of oil and way too sweet. Shouldn't have left the kitchen! (For those who don't know , an over ripe plantain is black before it's peeled, hard to peel, and soft). The 2 beverages ordered,1 with alcohol. .was fine, the 2nd was served in the same size glass as the 1st and did not contain alcohol....not cool. The sharing could be more especially for $7.00. The customer service was mediocre. The server did not return to ask if everything was OK , after food was served. Hence, having to ask another waiter who'd just eaten his share of rice and peas... I don't mind supporting black owned, but black owned needs to represent in a better manner. Very disappointed, would not return for lack of customer service and seasonless food. The establishment had opened at 4pm, we arrived before 5, so, there should be no lack in the service received today. I am of the culture and highly disappointed by what was presented to me. Maybe, I know better than the customers who don't.
11/2021 THIS IS AN UPDATE...The establishment reached out and asked for my email to discuss my disappointment. I responded as requested and to this day no response. So, in factuality it's perceived it was just a front to make it seem to those who read my review that there was sincere concern. When...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis past weekend I had my birthday dinner at Omarās Kitchen & Rum Bar. I had a large party of One of the chefs, Sean, allowed me to place orders for my party before the dinner which was a time saver. When I got to the restaurant I noticed that there was no way my party could fit comfortably, as the spacing between tables was very slight and the table arrangement was awkward. There were 2 high tables (bar style tables) with 3 high chairs set at each. There were 2 regular height tables with 7 chairs at one and 5 chairs at the other. The spacing was very cramped. One person had to keep getting up so that the waiter could pass through so it was very disoriented in that manner. I initially thought there would be tables put together to form a ālong lineā layout with people facing each other. I didnāt expect tables & chairs of different heights set up in a way where people canāt face each other. I would suggest that if you have a very large party like mine or more than 10 people, try to do a private dining experience with Omarās. I would have done it but I didnāt have enough time. I think a private dining experience would be much more comfortable for everyone and better economically.
Despite the cramped space & seating, the drinks, food were delicious and the service was great. Javier, our waiter, was one of the best waiters Iāve ever had. He was friendly, professional, attentive and interactive. He always made sure each person in my dinner party was set. Chef Sean made many accommodations for me to ensure that I had a pleasant experience under the unusual circumstances. He also constantly checked to make sure everything was going well. He gave my tables complimentary festival before the appetizers and entrees came out when he realized the spacing wasnāt comfortable. I truly appreciate the entire staff at Omarās for hosting my large dinner party. I will definitely return soon, (with a smaller party of course) Thank...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI just got off the phone with the very disrespectful hostess and I'm not surprised she hung up on me because she cut me off when I was explaining my issue to her. I am pregnant so obviously if I want something that's EXACTLY what I want. So for me to get a lackluster, coconut flaked salmon with missing ingredients, plus paid $7 for a ting soda because that was the only beverage option, JUST to get something not on the menu, Ginger beer that I do not drink nor would I want to because I'd actually like to enjoy and wash down my food, not feel a prickly throat, is ridiculous. Even more ridiculous is the fact I had to CALL to find out they ran out of the other ingredients, to them I ask why couldn't I be notified because obviously someone would change their order or cancel it, no? But her attitude was so stink and nonchalant and her tone was also monotone. Like why are you a hostess. I called at 8:03 on a Tuesday 6/3 if anyone needs that info. The salmon is so bad and if I was able to go whip up some sauce for it right now then I'd have made a whole 5 course meal as I normally do instead of ordering in the first place. I do not miss outside food at all and it's the disgusting attitude and lack of integrity that makes it like this.
Btw if the owner reads this, she said you weren't available, then she said something else, then it was you're away on vacation lol. Idk what kind of business you run but I let her know clearly the lack of integrity from your business to customers and obvious lack of passion for a food business in general allowed her to think it's okay to hang up on a customer and greet them with a 'well I can't help you' attitude from jump. Anyway tanks, last time mi eva support Jamaican restaurants caaz unnu show time and time why business is so...
