If you're thinking about coming here for Authentic Peking Duck, don't.
You're paying real Peking Duck prices ($88) for essentially normal roast duck that you can get from Chinese supermarkets for
Read moreCame here for a work dinner, as it seems many people do, as we were surrounded by other white-collar types in large groups. Our team's admin booked one of the banquet pre-set menus, which included:
Appetizers: Lute Shaped Prawns: Overcooked and chewy Fried Pork Dumplings: Meh Seafood Basket: Tasty and crispy
Soup: Seafood Sizzling Rice Soup: Bland with little seafood
Entrees: Filet Mignon with Black Pepper: The only decent entree of the lot Lobster with Hot Spicy Sauce: It wasn't spicy, it was ginger-scallion. And again, overcooked Grand Marnier Prawns: Fried and drowning in mayo. Ugh! Chinese Broccoli with Black Mushroom: Okay, but forgettable Scallops: Bland Yang Chow Fried Rice: Also bland
Dessert: Fried Banana with Ice-Cream: This needed a good drizzle of chocolate sauce and more ice-cream to make it really pop
I saved the worst for last. The Peking Duck, which of course was the whole reason we were there, was a laughably tiny little piece of fowl. Unlike decent Peking duck restaurants, PDH cuts and wraps the duck for you instead of letting you do it yourself. Thus, I was given a scallion-filled wrap that I would never have eaten, and had to dis-robe it to remove that filth. Because our duck was so tiny (and we apparently only got one), we only received one wrap each, containing the tiniest pieces of meat I've ever seen. There was no additional platter with remaining duck pieces for us to have seconds--nothing. What an absolute rip-off.
In sum, glad I didn't pay for dinner here. No one should be recommending this place for Peking duck to anyone except maybe terrible bosses, meddling mothers-in-law or...
Read moreThere's some funny business going on here with their $75 peking duck. I think they're reusing the carcass for the meat bits. We got there when the restaurant was empty apart from a family of 4, us, and a single man. We all ordered the duck, out came 3 ducks. The chef went table by table and sliced the duck up. I could see how much duck was left (and so much crispy skin!) that would just go to waste, so I thought. After he sliced our up, I asked the server if we can take our carcass to go. He nodded and told the busboy. They brought the carcass out a few minutes later. Much to my surprise, when we got home, IT CLEARLY WASN'T THE SAME DUCK!! You can't make this up, but they're bamboozling patrons for their duck. The duck we received was quartered (a WHOLE duck) into a small takeaway plastic tupperware. The same you get when ordering takeout. The head was gone (not that I wanted that piece) and so was most of the meat. It did not look like the same duck that had just been sliced up at the restaurant. We opened up the duck when we got home, it wasn't the same duck. We also had leftover duck that we didn't finish so the picture you will see below includes those meaty pieces. The rest is the supposed whole duck carcass we had asked to be wrapped up. They're definitely scheming this duck. How is this even a thing? You charge $75 a duck, why do this? Anyway, never ever setting foot in that place again. You've been warned.
PS. They weren't friendly either, very cold. When we left and thanked them and said goodbye, no one was around (the empty...
