The staff is friendly enough, I am not sure why people need to complain. Some of these reviews are just too carried away with the staffs attitude. They are working at a commercial gym, not a full service spa. They are there to check you in and keep the place clean, not pamper you and pretend to be interested in your day. If you want that kind of service for 20 bucks a month in Manhattan, you must be full of yourself.
The gym has a pretty standard commercial gym layout, with tons of cardio machines. Be warned, Monday-Thursday there will be a wait for a treadmill. The past few times I have gone at that time, not a single machine was unused. It only took a 2 minutes wait, and I was off doing cardio, so the wait isn't that bad. Any other time or day, it is easy to get a machine.
The locker rooms are locker rooms, get changed and take a shower if you want. They provide a vending machine for little things like deodorant, perfumes and even earbuds if your in a pinch.
I was surprised that they actually have more than two squat racks, but three is not much of a step up. The one downstairs is almost always taken, but the two upstairs can be had pretty easily and you might even be able to share with someone if they are nice enough. Wish they didn't need to, but they should put up some instructional signs around the racks that tell people they are not for curls. There is one bench, and I have seen a few people curling there, it always gets me but I know it's not Blinks fault.
The issues I have are minor. They use hex plates, which make it much harder to dead lift because when you put the bar down it can land on a corner of the plate and bust your shin worse than a razor scooter. I feel like they could put another pull up/dip station, and add another squat rack somewhere, but I can usually find a spot.
The staff do a nice job, the place is clean and plates are usually put away. There are plenty of cardio machines, 2 rowing, half a dozen bikes, stair climbers, and maybe 30 or so treadmills; coming here for cardio will not be an issue. Bring a lock for the lockers, and where flip flops and a towel in the shower. Strength and body building equipment is sufficient for people of all ranges but this definitely isn't the most comprehensive for power lifting or Olympic lifting; the Hex plates are pretty inconvenient. All in all, there are some improvements that could be made, but the absolute value makes this a great gym for casual fitness that won't break the bank.
Also they have trainers that seem ok, I never had a session with one but I have seen them bring great attitude to their clients with an...
Read moreI originally thought blink fitness was a gym that was not out to scam people, however I was wrong. When I signed up for my blink membership I was choosing between the green and gray package, which are both nicely outlined on the home page of each location. Since I was happy with the amenities of the green package I clicked "Join." I was immediately brought to the contact and payment page and in 5 minutes I was signed up to be a blink member. What I did not notice on the lower right hand side of the page in small font (smaller and not bolded like everything else on the page) was that this was a 12 year agreement. Naturally, that was not mentioned anywhere else during my registration. Immediately, when a co-worker had told me what I had done I went down to blink to fix this. Of course this is when the typical gym scam occurs. To cancel and change my membership I had to pay a penalty of $80 and the staff was not helpful at all. They said they asked the clubhouse manager about the issue which consisted of a 2 second phone call off to the side which was unsuccessful. I can't express how angry and foolish I felt because I had thought blink was different than every other gym out there. Now since I am writing this review I would like to share my additional thoughts about blink...you get what you pay for. The showers have no towels and the "body wash/shampoo dispensers" might as well have been from your local gas station bathroom. So if you plan on showering there don't forget to pack your suitcase. In addition, if you want a treadmill at 5 o'clock good luck. You might as well run home and...
Read moreBeen a member for a few years. I feel like Iâve seen it all here. Vast majority of staff are excellent and nice, I can only remember one over a year ago that was harassing random people because she was bored, but not seen that behavior since. Sometimes if you stay till the end theyâll shut off all the lights for the last 5mins which feels like a safety hazard. Other than that, all other workers have been cheery and very cool, they always say hi and bye to me, thatâs a nice touch! I love that I can bring a guest now and again, thatâs been great. For the price itâs very good, I donât use the showers or the bathrooms so canât speak to that. Right now it is too hot, they have the heating on too high on the lower floor, but that doesnât bother me after a while, and for most of the year itâs a good temperature. I occasionally wish the sanitary wipes would be replaced more often, but 80% of the time itâs fine. Generally the gym can get a little overcrowded when I go (weekday evenings around 7-9pm) and I wish they would open up later on weekends, especially Sunday, a 7pm close feels way too early to me and ruins my evening-vibe. Clientele ranges massively, with mostly normal people and minority of trashy people, but mostly other customers are fine. Iâve found the equipment to be generally good and well maintained, or theyâre quick to fix it if it breaks. Honestly, for the price, I donât think it can be beaten, so Iâm grateful for this gym and the nice people...
