9 times out of 10 when I walk into a pizzeria and there is an old Italian guy behind the counter im in for some good pizza. The pizza palace on Dyckman was no exception. the first thing I noticed about the place was that old New York pizza shop feel that that you dont get in more tourist friendly areas of the city. I can tell this place has looked exactly the same since the 1960s. It reminded me of Margherita Pizza on Jamaica Avenue.
The pie: I ordered a Sicilian pizza pie for Game 7 of the NBA finals. For $25 i found it to be an exceptional value for such a hearty pie. This thing felt like it weighed 10 pounds when I picket it up. It was cut into 9 slices. This monster can feed 4 or 5 hungry people. I intended on having 3 slices but could not have more than 2. This is a quality Sicilian pie by the way. They use the REAL mozzarella not the imitation garbage most shops use nowadays and they give you lots of it! When you grab a slice the cheese stretches and drips all over the place. Its like I ordered EXTRA EXTRA cheese. The Sicilian is really deep so the slices are filling. My only complaint is that bottom of the pie and the crust were very lightly cooked. not crispy an crunchy like you get from some of the spots with the antique brick ovens. a little too soft for my liking. This isn't a deal breaker, next time ill ask for my pie to be cooked longer.
Pizza palace gets a very solid 4.5 stars. They use the best ingredients and I definitely got my moneys worth. This is throwback NY pizza that makes no compromises. I wouldn't call it the best of the best as far as NYC pizza goes. I think the ovens at places like prince street pizza make the difference for those places. But its on my list of some of the better pizza that exists in...
Read morePizza Palace is the kind of place that you could walk right by without even noticing it. Tucked away on a side street in Dyckman, it's easy to miss the unassuming storefront with its simple sign that reads "Pizza Palace". But for those who know about it, Pizza Palace is a little slice of heaven in a city that's famous for its pizza.
The interior of Pizza Palace is nothing fancy - just a few tables and chairs, a counter where you can order your food, and a large pizza oven that dominates the room. But it's the pizza that's the star of the show here, and for good reason. The pies at Pizza Palace are some of the best you'll find in the city, with a crispy, chewy crust that's the perfect balance of salty and sweet.
The menu at Pizza Palace is simple - just a few classic pizza toppings like pepperoni, sausage, and mushrooms, along with a few specialty pies like the "Meat Lovers" and the "Veggie Delight". But the simplicity is part of the charm here - there are no frills or gimmicks, just good old-fashioned pizza that's made with care and attention to detail.
What really sets Pizza Palace apart, though, is the service. The staff here are friendly and welcoming, treating every customer like an old friend. They're quick with a smile and a joke, and they make you feel right at home from the moment you step through the door.
All in all, Pizza Palace is a must-visit for anyone who loves pizza. It may not be the fanciest or most well-known pizzeria in the city, but it's got heart and soul, and that's what really matters. So next time you're in Dyckman, be sure to seek out this hidden gem - you won't be...
Read moreThe best Sicilian slice in the city. If there was a citywide, statewide or even worldwide competition I'd put my money on these. The cheese when done right and fresh out of the oven has a sweet lemony flavor to it. The balance of cheese, sauce and bread is incredible and every piece has its unique appeal. Corners with 2 sides crust, Sides with 1 side crust and the middle piece with no crusts at all on either side.
If you are ever in the are you owe it to yourself to pay this shop a visit if you are in the mood for pizza. On weekends they are open late but probably will only make Sicilian slices at that hour if there is a demand or someone orders a pie.
They have great slices as well and their chicken slice is delicious. Try out other items on the menu, their lasagna is also...
