Lived in Astoria for 15 years, seen this place be built and open for business. Been there dozens of times, last night was the last time. Sat down with a friend and we both ordered a destination unknown plattekill pale ale ($8 beer). What we got was not what we ordered. I asked the bartender what beer it was and it was like he couldn’t speak English. Whatever, we drank the sour tasting beer and decide to go to a different bar. When I asked for the check I noticed the beer I was being charged for was something other than I ordered and was $11 per drink. I asked the bartender and he showed me the tap ID for plattekill (clearly said $8) which we were sitting in front of, the plattekill tap was on the other side of the taps which was not were he poured our beers out of. When I asked why I’m getting charged more and for a beer I didn’t order he couldn’t formulate an answer. Money wasn’t an issue, I felt ripped off and scammed. I did strike out the tip on the receipt which I personally never do and left. Went to Sweet Spot and ran up a $130 bill with food and drinks, enjoyed the presence of their bartenders conversation. A missed opportunity for Riverside and you lost a local customer over 6 bucks. To the management: you guys have a reputation in the neighborhood and it’s not good. Cheap labor who thinks they can one up people by ripping them off for a few dollars is bad business. Be better. Hire better. Fire that guy who was...
Read moreReally wanted to give it a 5 stars, but there was a few minor things that was concerning.
5 stars - Service was outstanding. Granted there was only two tables, the girl did a phenomenal job taking care of us.
5 stars - The decor is great. Love the blood red color on the table, wall highlights and splashes on the images.
5 stars - The space is huge. It's the largest food space on Ditmars for big groups. Like the center bar making it a great place to socialize while others eat on the sides
3.5 stars - The food... Which has the most weight then anything else. The wings are generic with sizes that are tiny to average. The honey butter dip should be removed from the menu. It has zero taste. The habanero was tasty, but still average. Two small tacos, the avocado which is extra should be required to make this a reasonable size taco. Additionally one of the limes was dried out, so it must have been sitting around for a while. As far as the rice bowl. Great portion, the bulgogi was very tasty, however... it's a COLD dish.. which I wasn't expecting with the hot meat on top. Would have been great to know this and given the option to be warm.
Overall it's a great bar spot, but not my first choice to eat on Ditmars with so many...
Read moreI really want to give this place better reviews, but their service is so inconsistent. The first two times I went in, I would've given them 5-stars across the board, but I went in several times after that and their menus are outdated, the beers on tap have changed but the board is not updated, the guy bartender is really hasty and impatient, wasn't friendly at all, their online payment system hasn't always worked so I wind up having to pay cash (when I haven't wanted to), and the online payment thing requires downloading an app which is just a pain in the arse, just use a handheld device I can tap my card (one that's working).
The food was good, but I think the portions are too small for the price. I haven't been back, it's just too much hassle to order online, having to download an app to pay, which they then charge you more to pay with credit/debit than cash (even though I have to do all the damn work), and some of the servers there aren't...
