S'MAC — Restaurant in New York

The food is good. Not great. Good. Sometimes it's really good. I've had it several times over the years. But last night will be the last time for a while.

In fairness, I'm not entirely clear if the problem with last night's food was the restaurant or GrubHub. Let me back up...

We ordered S'Mac at 7 PM. We placed a very simple order via GrubHub for myself, my wife, and our 10 year old daughter. After a lot of waiting, and a lot of back-and-forth with GrubHub - who was of NO HELP... the customer service rep encouraged us to cancel the order and get food from another place - our food finally arrived at around 9:15 PM. Cold, of course.

So, the food was not experienced in the optimal way. In hindsight, GrubHub is a very flawed, and very EXPENSIVE, service. "Service"- for lack of a better word. But shouldn't the restaurant(s) assume some responsibility? If they are going to offer delivery - and in the case of S'Mac, it sure seems like takeout is the bulk of their business - shouldn't they have a delivery person(s) on staff? Shouldn't they follow up with the courier when the takeout order sits there for two hours?

The grief and stress simply wasn't worth it.

ADDITION: shortly after posting this review, someone from the restaurant added a reply asking for more details. It doesn't seem as though you can reply to a reply. So I'll just answer it here, in the "edit" to my initial review.

Our takeout order was on 2/18/2025. I thought that would have been clear from what I wrote in my review. The order was placed at 7 PM, again- as stated in the review.

I'm sure most of the fault for our negative experience lies with GrubHub. But I also feel the restaurant(s) must take responsibility. Otherwise, GrubHub will continue to cost you...

This place has been on my to do list for quite some time and I finally got a chance to go. They have a few different size options which is awesome, I appreciate that they understand different size appetites. I ordered the smallest size cheeseburger Mac and cheese. It was really good, in an “what you expect” type of way. It’s cheeseburger Mac and cheese so I didn’t expect something I had never experienced before, but it was definitely really good and filling and tasted better then if I would have made it myself. On the other hand, my partner got the La Macha Mac and cheese which was amazinggggggg. It was different, creamy and the the ingredients were well balanced. This location had multiple condiments available at the table (ketchup, hot sauce, red pepper flakes, Salt and pepper) which was awesome to just be able to decide at your table what you want to add. Additionally they had a water cooler where you could refill your own water, along with to-go boxes available for you to fix yourself. I did enjoy the “do it yourself” approach they have going on here, especially since it’s a pretty small place. I really only had 2 issues with the place and it has absolutely nothing to do with the food. There is NO AC. It’s summertime, sizzling hot Mac and cheese and no ac. That was really disappointing for me. The second thing was that at some point the water cooler has run out and took a patron to bring it to the attention of the workers. Also, no AC, sizzling hot Mac and cheese, people are in and out, in my time there I feel this should have been checked on but it wasn’t. But other then that, I would totally...

I had an experience because there is one particular waiter who comes outside to bring me my food. I ordered from the kiosk. He bringed me my cheeseburger Mac and cheese and forgot my diet Dr Pepper. I had told him (very politely) and he stormed off and gave me a dirty look. When he came back I told him, “you don’t have to be rude.” He replied very sassy, “I wasn’t being rude.” I replied, “ you were rude.”

I also had another experience with this same person a few weeks prior. I was out with my friend and we were outside. He brang our food and drinks and I asked him if he could please bring us straws since we had forgotten them. He replied ,” they are inside.” All he had to do was bring straws and I understand there’s lots of customers because this place is very well known and loved but you couldn’t bring me a straw? What if I was outside by myself like I usually am and you told me the same thing? Am I suppose to pick up my hot pan of mac and cheese and go inside to get a straw? His attitude sucks. Ms. Sarita I love S’mac so much and I’ve been coming here since 2016 sometimes alone and sometimes with a friend. I work as a nurse in the Bronx and I come alll the way to East Village to Smac to enjoy Mac and cheese, but I don’t appreciate the rudeness. Yall Mac and Cheese is bomb by the way.
