Wonderful cafe with a horribly racist patron.

Shade Bar was the perfect place to end our girls day, my two friends and myself decided to get a crepe and catch up in the outdoor dining area. The crepe was delicious, hot, and perfectly chewy and the servers were very kind!

However, our experience took a turn for the worse when an older woman walks in to sit and order a cup of tea. This woman seemed to be a regular, as she not-so-politely ordered the waitress to turn on the heat. Anyways, being rude to waitstaff is strike number one in my book. But the antics do not stop here….

As my friends and I were conversing about our days, the same woman yells from across the outdoor dining area for us to be quiet, huffed and puffed, and said a few other choice words. My friends and I, stunned at this extremely out of pocket remark, stayed a few more minutes and decided to leave because this woman was very clearly not well in the head. As we got up to go, I said to the woman “that was not kind of you to speak to us like that, that was uncalled for. I’ll be hoping you have a better day” to which she replied “oh yeah? Well I’ll be praying for you all to LEAVE THIS COUNTRY AND GO BACK TO WHERE YOU CAME FROM” screaming at my friends and I. My friend promptly went inside to tell the staff, and I’m not sure what was done from that point on, but I feel horribly sorry for the waitstaff that needed to deal with her rude personality.

This woman needs to realize that she is sitting in one of the most diverse cities in the world, and if she doesn’t like it then she can leave.

I hope that if you decide to visit this cute little cafe on a Sunday afternoon, that you do not run into this miserable, rude, and...

Super excited to have crepes. The staff was friendly, efficient and kind. Unfortunately the crepes were extraordinarily overpriced at 12$ each for crepes that were just okay. I ordered a Nutella, strawberry and banana crepe which was okay but the crepe wrap itself was a little underdone and chewy whereas my father ordered a dulce de leche and strawberry crepe and his dulce de leche was so watery that it just made a pool inside and underneath his crepe which ultimately was inedible. Sadly disappointed. The people behind us ordered savory crepes and perhaps that's a better option here. I'll give it a try before moving onto...

Worst place because of the very RUDE employee. Simple, I was eating an ice cream and my friend just wanted to stop and have a beer on the OUTSIDE table, I did not sit since my ice cream was melting and asked the gentleman for some napkins, he only said, you cannot sit here or be here with outside food or drinks. I was not sitting, I was not even inside the establishment, I was on the streets sidewalk and my friend had just ordered a beer and payed for it. DONT BE RUDE TO PAYING CUSTOMERS. The streets does not belong to the establishment and I was NOT siting...

Denied me entry with my licensed service dog even after I showed them my license and explained this is discriminatory and a violation of both NYC & federal law, including the Americans with Disabilities Act. The owner said she doesn’t care & I can call the cops if I wanted to. I didn’t want to make a scene. But all animal lovers and everyone interested in human rights and the rights of the disabled should boycott this establishment until the mean owner sees the light and stops discriminating against people with disabilities. It’s irrelevant that she “doesn’t like dogs”!;(
