Horrible customer service. I’d like to believe that the short, darker toned man who was serving customers ignored me because he was busy; however, as I was the sole Black woman there, his rudeness and disregard screamed otherwise.
I ordered in advance and was running around preparing for the holiday and double parked my vehicle with my dog inside. I said excuse me before asking if I should wait in line or somewhere else for my phone order. He asked what I said and I repeated myself.
This man proceeded to the next customer without even saying “I’ll be right with you” which would have been fine given there was a line. Initially I stood there as people looked at me and him because they all heard my question and saw how simple he was to not acknowledge me.
I waited and finally left. I got in my car and called and spoke to the woman I place the order with and informed her that I was just there and wouldn’t be purchasing my food there.
I then returned to ensure that I spoke with her face to face as he simply looked on. People never know who their serving and who they know, but I digress. Being rude, ignorant and disrespectful will not keep customers.
Seeing past reviews I guess this is the norm. Thank you but no thank you. Food is best when you cook your own but when I’m not in the mood, my second go to (Sybil’s) is just a few blocks away and my number one’s (Pam’s and Linda’s in Brooklyn) are A1! Great service to everyone, not just those who have their skin color.
This place can’t touch their food hands down! It may be a family owned business but the ladies are the ones who deliver good customer service (my...
Read moreI have been a very frequent customer of this establishment, their pastries and local Guyanese fare are pretty good. However their attitude is absolute one of the worst you will ever come across. The owner which is an older lady is the sweetest, however her children behave like they are doing us the consumers a favor by assisting us, newsflash ladies we are the PAYING customers. I had an event last week where i ordered $100.00 worth of appetizers for my event , they asked what time we would like to pick up, i advised 5pm as my event was at 7:30 pm. This was also written on the receipt, my brother got there at 5 to get the items and was advised that it was not ready, he came back at 5:30, still not ready. 6:30pm he calls and tells me that they still weren't ready, this was a surprise 60Th for our mother and we had to get her to the hall at 7:30, when they were finally ready, one of the sisters come out saying that they did me a favor by placing the order, are you kidding me! I paid my money to get my items, they weren't given to me for FREE. I was hesitant to write this review in respect for the Owner, but enough is enough, this is not the first time they have done this and other people needs to know what they will be met with once they visit this...
Read moreIf you’re craving authentic Guyanese food in Queens, Shanta’s is easily one of the best spots around. Every visit has been a flavorful journey, the food is always fresh, well-prepared, and hits all the right notes of comfort and nostalgia.
My go-to favorites? The Saltfish, Potato & Bake, a classic done right every time The Potato Ball - golden, crispy perfection with that familiar Guyanese touch
Unlike some places in NY that claim to serve authentic Guyanese cuisine, Shanta’s delivers the real deal. It truly brings a little piece of home right here to New York.
The staff has been easy to communicate with in my experience, and the vibes are generally pleasant. That said, customer service could use a bit of polish. One recommendation would be to implement a numbering system to manage the crowd, it does get packed (because the food’s that good), and a more organized system would go a long way.
Still, Shanta’s continues to earn its place as a neighborhood favorite. Highly recommend if you’re after legit Guyanese eats and a...
