I am sooo disappointed in Trini Delite and I do not think I will be returning. First of all, I paid almost $70 for 2 small meals, 2 soursop and a khurma. I asked why the cashier was nice enough to explain that I was charged for "add-ons", although it was ridiculous to me, I was fine. I get home, EXTREMELY HUNGRY. My husband is the first to eat his food. He said the rice and peas had no taste. What trini makes bland rice and peas? The curry chicken terrible too. Then it's time for me to eat my food. The curry mango they gave me big and HARD. Spinach is burnt! I say okay, let me try the khurma, the khurma soft like that. Khurma is to have a crunch to it. What nonsense is this they trying to give people? Lastly, I ordered soursop, I opened it. It taste funny. It not expiring until next year June!! So this obviously isn't natural. This restaurant once upon a time was excellent. Now they clearly letting money go to their head and giving people anything to eat. A truly poor representation of Trinidad and Tobago...... sooo disappointed in Trini Delite and I do not think I will be returning. Read moreI came in with high hopes and an empty belly, ready to dine on roti and doubles and maybe taste a little piece of home. But what I got? A hot, overpriced, disrespectful mess.
First off, $4 for chickpeas? $4 for pumpkin? $4 for spinach?! Bawl for your grandmother. I can understand paying for extras, but at this rate, you might as well charge me rent to eat in your establishment. And don’t try to act like the potato's a freebie—potato is standard with roti, not a garnish. Don't insult the culture.
Now let’s talk about the doubles—the holy grail of Trini street food. That barra (the skin) was paper thin, thinner than my last nerve. It should have bounce, chew, a little cushion. Instead, it disintegrated on contact like wet tissue, leaving a trail of channa and shame all over my hands. A mess. A true culinary collapse.
And here’s a question for the house: if these prices are because of tariffs or import fees, that’s a discussion to be had. But make no mistake—we keeping receipts. We will be circling back in four years, and if the tariff lifts but the prices stay sky high? Baby, we clockin’ it. Don’t play in Caribbean people face and expect we go hush. We’ll dougla stomp our way back in here with a clipboard and questions.
But what really boils my blood like dhal on high heat? It’s one thing if you’re running game on tourists who don’t know better. But you’re charging these prices and serving this quality to your own Caribbean people? You know full well we coming here for nostalgia, comfort, and real food. And this is how you serve us? For shame. Granny rolling in she grave.
If you're gonna call yourself “Delight,” at least try not to...
Read moreEDIT: I gave a 2 star review many months ago for poor service and very expensive, unpalatable food and have not been back since. Yesterday, however, I decided to give them another try. Sadly, I have to change my previous 2star review to only 1 star and I wish I could give a ZERO star rating instead because (in my opinion) they have gotten even worse. The staff is too playful behind the counter and rude to customers and the food is just the worse I have ever eaten from a "Trinidadian" restaurant. As a bonified Trini myself, I am highly embarrassed this place represents my country's cuisine because this is NOT how we (Trinidadians) cook!! The doubles are very runny and messy on extremely oily bara. The stew chicken was overly (disgustingly) sweet. The curry chicken was falling apart, more like pulled chicken yet almost raw inside. The roti (I had buss-up-shot/paratha) was full of grease. I had a currants roll which was stale and went straight into the garbage. For 2 roti dishes and 2 doubles, I paid $30. Money down the drain. The owner of this restaurant should be ashamed of himself and the product he is selling in this mostly west indian populated neighborhood. It is as if they do not care about the food and people they serve and it is all about the money. I gave them another try, after almost 8 or 9 months, hoping for a better experience but sadly, it was worse. NEVER WASTING MY HARD EARNED...
