Sixteen Mill has the BEST gluten free artisanal baked goods in the WORLD. Luckily for New York,,they are located in Brooklyn and not L.A.! Some people think gluten free is a cliche, however the wheat that is in this country is predominantly genetically modified so much that our bodies are not capable of breaking it down. This causes a plethora of symptoms that some of us assume are from stress or simply have adapted to live with… And I get those that despise gluten free having had products from the supermarkets. Let me tell you, Sixteen Mill has come to save the day. Talia the head baker is beyond talented in the goods that she bakes not only in the incredible texture she is able to accomplish but in the most delectable flavor profiles as well. She is also mindful in not using any refined sugar, no unhealthy oils, or copious amounts of salt like most gluten free options out there. Working alongside her husband Miles, they have truly bestowed something so special for all people to benefit from. Sourdough everything bagels, seasonal loaves and donuts, vegan chocolate chip cookies made with delectable rich dark chocolate , brownies that will not weigh you down or make you feel bloated, and a variety of bread that will not break your toaster or teeth! All of her goods actually taste delightful they are also GOOD for everyone’s body! This is not a hype, these are facts! As a graduate with a nutrition certificate I hands down exclaim that Sixteen Mill is the best bakery you can go to. You can find them at the farmers market in both Manhattan and Brooklyn. Check out Talia and her amazing artisanal and warmly crafted baked goods on her website and instagram to see when you can find her next… You...
Read moreSixteen Mill Bakery: Gluten-Free That Doesn't Taste Like It! Sixteen Mill Bakery is an absolute haven for anyone who loves baked goods, but especially those who are gluten-free! I'm still blown away by how incredible their pastries are. My husband actually brought home a loaf of their babka from a local coffee shop, and I was convinced he had misread the label! It tasted that good – like a classic, buttery, gluten-filled babka. I had to check the packaging myself to believe it. What I loved: Unbelievably Gluten-Free: Seriously, you won't believe these pastries are gluten-free. They have mastered the art of baking without sacrificing flavor or texture. Amazing Selection: They offer a wide variety of treats, from breads to pastries to cookies. Friendly Service: The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. They're passionate about their baking and are happy to answer any questions. Cozy Atmosphere: The bakery has a lovely, cozy atmosphere that makes you want to stay a while and enjoy your treats. My favorites: Babka Loaf: This was the game-changer! Soft, flavorful, and perfectly textured. Chocolate Chip Cookie: Soft, chewy, and loaded with chocolate chips. (Anything else you tried and loved!) Overall: Sixteen Mill Bakery is a must-visit. They've proven that gluten-free doesn't mean sacrificing taste or quality. I highly recommend it to everyone, whether you're gluten-free or not. You won't be...
Read moreStaff are very nice! Scone tasted like baking soda and was oversalted. Also much too oily relative to the amount of spinach in it (not enough to provide flavor). Probably more of a southern biscuit than a scone. I like the flavor of the baked doughnuts, but they're gluey in texture and heavy. I can make better vegan options and easily modify for gluten free diets in my own kitchen. For those who do not have experience baking, this could be a good option for you, but I'd suggest clementine's, cinnamon girl, and dun well if you're mainly looking for vegan and gluten free options. I will also note that unless you have an allergy to the plant it's from, seed oils are fine for you and you shouldn't listen to people without medical or science degrees trying to sell you health propaganda, so you have many vegan and gluten free options that you can eat if you don't have allergies in Brooklyn that have more balanced flavors and textures. I appreciate that this business is aware of allergies and seeks to provide food to those who have few bakery options, however I hope in the future they seek to modify their recipes and mix their dough and batter...
