The food tasted ok! But compared to the Indian food we had in the food court in the Newport shopping mall, the food in Taza Mkt was awfully little portion!!! Very little. And my husband got one dish for himself which cost about $17 and he literally just finished all the food within 15 bites... small bites... When the girl was putting the food in the plate, I was shocked she only gave two small pieces of chicken and that was the main dish in the meal.... Super stingy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish I had taken the photo. The flavor was ok. I lived in India for almost 1 year and to be honest, the food served in Taza Mkt didn't taste that Indian.... I also go to Greenwich Village a lot as there are many Indian restaurants... I do think Taza Mkt needs a lot of room to improve.... too expensive and too little portion....
I think the problem is not the staff... the problem is the container you use is small... If that can only carry that much food, how can your staff put more food inside? My husband made a comment, "this is the most expensive food court in NYC." After visiting your store, we really regretted... We could have gone to the korean restaurant close to your store and their bibembap only cost $12 and the portion was also bigger....Oh, my husband got hungry in 2 hours and he is not a huge guy... he is 5.8" tall and weighs 165 lbs. So what will happen to other customers who are way bigger than my husband? I seldom leave negative reviews... but when I do, it means I am very very...
Read moreGood Indian food is layers of flavor- the complexity of spices and textures is vastly underrated and perfection is often harder to achieve (from what I have noticed in the US.) For me, heat is a must, but it has to be the kind that causes just a hint of sweat, and a pleasant warmth on the tongue and the back of the throat. There are so many options here, for veg, non-veg and spice level preferences - and based on what I chose, a pork vindaloo with saag over basmati, they are all going to be good. This chef is taking exceptional care to make sure the food is of a quality you won’t expect of takeout. The pork was tender, spicy but not extremely so, and perfectly seasoned; the saag, very well blended and light, I’ve never had it this way, but it was almost like a sauce/condiment here, I wish I had more to make a better assessment, but it was tasty. Rice was fluffy and warm, and the toppings- a thinly sliced cabbage slaw, and crunchy, juicy cucumbers, offered a cooling balance to the meal. I opted for Bengali pickles to carry the heat - delicious, and tamarind and cilantro chutney, which I could’ve used more of, but only to assess. This is the Indian place you should frequent if you want something...
Read moreI was excited to try this spot and although my experience started off rocky, it quickly turned into one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in New York.
When I first sat down, I felt overlooked as a solo diner and was on my way storming out but before I walked out, I spoke with the owner. She couldn’t have been kinder. She apologized sincerely, made sure I felt welcome, and insisted dinner would be on the house. That small gesture, paired with her warmth, completely turned things around.
The food itself was incredible.. so flavorful, fresh, and exactly what I’d been craving. But more than that, the hospitality reminded me of true Indian warmth and care. The owner didn’t have to go out of her way for one customer on a busy Friday night, but she did, and it left a lasting impression.
I walked away not only full and happy but also feeling like I’d found a place I want to return to again and again.
Highly recommend for anyone who loves authentic Indian food and values genuine...
