Last Friday, at approximately 3 PM, I stopped in to meet with a friend who was running a little late. At the counter, I politely and cordially asked if I could use their restroom before making a purchase, as I was waiting for my friend. However, I was respectfully denied, and I understood their position. I stood off to the side on my phone to wait inside because it was cold outside. Literally no more than two minutes later, I was approached by what seemed like a manager, who passive-aggressively warned me that if I didn’t make an immediate purchase, I would likely have to leave the premises. They weren’t even busy, and I was mindful not to block the entrance or cashier space.
All things aside, I’m a native New Yorker and work in the service industry, so I understand the struggles of dealing with the public. Still, I can’t help but feel that there may have been some kind of bias in the staff’s actions. I frequent this coffee shop from time to time to do work, and I’ve never experienced anything like this before at any coffee shop. I’ll probably continue stopping by occasionally, but I think the staff should have a better judgment of character and be less presumptuous and more professional towards people who don’t fit their traditional customer demographic.
They also got my whole milk cappuccino wrong and added oat milk, and they upcharged me even though I referred to my milk option as "regular milk" instead of "whole milk." I didn’t want to complain because I already felt ostracized and...
Read moreBeware of this place !!! I would never purchase from this coffee shop ever again . The women manager there is very rude, I believe her name is (aja ) or something to that nature .Upon walking in I ordered a bagel with butter toasted with the gentleman behind the counter . She happened to be sitting down in a chair as if she shouldn’t be behind the counter to assist customers . I proceeded to the counter to pay, in which she then proceeded to get out of her chair to assist . After paying I asked for a cup with ice , she rudely said “wait” . It prompted me to say “what is the attitude for” . I waited patiently however, I noticed she proceeded to give me a small cup with ice water when I just asked for a cup of ice. I politely asked if I could have a cup with a lid and I only wanted ice . Instead of showing professionalism she screamed “no I can’t do that “ . I said I don’t mind paying for it “how much “ she said “one dollar “ in which I gave. It then dawned on me that I don’t have to spend my money here if the service here is going to be bad in which I asked for my money back . I have been to this shop before and have never experienced such disgust . Not to mention I am 8 months pregnant and was asking for ice to hydrate myself . Shame...
Read moreThis Easy Village coffee shop crams a lot into a relatively small space. Coffee, cakes, sandwiches, bagels, juices, smoothies, wifi and couches can all be found here along with trendy serving staff who subscribe to the 'wearing hats indoors' trend that is so popular nowadays. There's plenty of seating but that doesn't make it easy to find somewhere as the place us usually crammed with laptop-toting students - so much so that there are signs on several tables enforcing a no-laptop zone! Coffee is a selection of espresso and drip varieties and not bad, juices and smoothies are varied and reasonably priced for the area. Food is a little overpriced in my opinion but interestingly they often sell the leftover sandwiches from the day before for 50% off. My favourite part about visiting The Bean though is that it's dog friendly. I like nothing more than dog-watching while sipping my "Hangover...
