Very bland tasting. This place was ok. It was somewhat good, but it's not worth a stop. This place is located across the street from a hotel so f you're a tourist just do yourself a favor & find better quality breakfast. I've tried breakfast like this back at home. There's nothing that makes this breakfast (food quality wise) stand out. There's nothing that makes this place special & the food didn't taste the best it could. I was sort of let down. The service is 5/5 & the interior is very cozy. I would say the highlight of my experience, were those 2 things, not the food. I wouldn't recommend eating here although my food was decent. NYC is supposed to have the best food on the planet & this place was ok but there was nothing special that stood out to me about the service or food. Our server was friendly but nothing really stood out me. Photo of The Harold - New York, NY, United States Photo of The Harold - New York, NY, United States

I rarely write reviews, but as a New Yorker of 30 years, The Harold Restaurant has served the worst food. I started with the guacamole and chips, followed by fried calamari. The chips that came with the guacamole were stale, so we informed the waitress. She told us that even if they remade them, they'd turn out the same—basically admitting they don't make fresh chips on the spot. The calamari was topped with kimchi, which completely ruined the dish and lost my appetite. I can't understand why they'd put kimchi on calamari in the first place and kimchi was not listed on the menu. For the main course, I ordered the wild mushroom pappardelle. The sauce was watery and didn’t blend well with the pasta, leaving it bland. Shouldn't the pasta be creamy? Food in the city is usually mediocre, but this was something else entirely. Even though I was very hungry, I couldn’t finish any of the dishes. Save your money and avoid : (

Made a reservation for 1:00pm. My wife's cousin and her family were visiting us and we met them in the city for brunch. We googled restaurants near Penn Station. This was one of the restaurants that popped up. Liked the reviews we read and decided to try it. We were greeted by a hostess who seated us immediately. The restaurant was busy. People were eating and conversing but not too loud that we couldn't hear each other. There were 5 of us. Waiter was polite, friendly and attentive. We ordered 2 steak sandwiches, buttermilk pancakes with side of overeasy eggs and 2 fish and chips platters. My wife ordered a latte which she enjoyed. The food was delicious as well. The bill was about $27 per person before tax and tip. We decided to stay for a little while longer to catch up and we weren't rushed out. I would definitely recommend this place.

I really wanted to love this bar, I walked past it many times as it so close to my office so when a colleague of mine said it was their birthday I thought it the perfect location to take work people out for drinks. We started with some bar snacks which was great but when we ran out of pita bread from a bar plate they provided they stated it would be $2 for more. Did not think much of it, a little odd but we all have to make money I get it. We then decided to have a few whiskeys to run the night out and when I got the bill which was close to $200 i noticed they had marked the drink price up fro each drink up by $1. When I asked the server why they said they charged $1 for ice. I questioned this having lived in nyc for over 9 years and never once being charged for ice. They responded and said if i was from around here I would understand that is NYC state law for charging for ice. So I challenged them on this and called 311 for the exact state law while I videos them for their response. The manager refused to answer me and said he would refund me the $6 dollars which he did but this was not really the point. The herald is a grey bar in a great location, you have no reason to try and rip off the tourists and anyone with an accent coming into this var. Just serve good honest drinks with good prices and let the business grow.. Such a sad way to end our night and to think I gave them $200 of my money and they could have that week after week if they looked after their customers. be warned anyone on 34th street. there are plenty of better more...

I went to the restaurant October 19, 2019 around 3:15pm. The food was great but I was racially profiled by the hostess (Victoria). Victoria seated me and my girlfriend when we arrived. Ten minutes after we were seated I got up to use the restroom. I went downstairs to ask Victoria were the bathroom was, she proceeded to tell me it’s for guest only (after she just seated me). I responded by telling her I was dining in and had to use the restroom. Victoria asked where was I sitting. I ignored her a proceeded to find the bathroom myself. Victoria the assaulted me ( grabbing my wrist in a very firm manner ) trying to stop me from going any further. I snatched my wrist from her grip and went to wash my hands. After I was done, I informed my server what just happened and requested to speak to the manager. The manager tried to belittle the situation by saying it was a mistake and stated that “ We’re in New York a lot of people try to come in and use the bathroom all the time.” After I requested to be accommodated for, the manager only insisted on giving me a 10 percent discount. After refusing the discount, he finally removed my french toast meal. It was unacceptable for his hostess to put her hands on me for any reason, that was unacceptable. I noticed she did not stop any other guests from the bathroom, but she stopped me (a black male). I highly request that Victoria gets terminated. She caused me a lot of trauma because I have never experienced racism before. I did not put my hands on her because I was taught not...

Manager: Gerardo - what a treat dealing with him.

We were greeted by a tired unhappy hostess. Then when it came time to order, the restaurant doesn’t allow any modification to accommodate a vegetarian guest without up charging full price. Asked for Two eggs and to substitute the meat for avocado, they said no, not without charging an addition $6.

Then when I explained to him that I also have worked in the hospitality industry so I understand the inventory side, he said then I should know. I asked about the egg white omelette and if i could have it with regular eggs, he said the price would remain the same, although typically dishes with egg whites are more because of the egg white. He made the comment a second time in a condescending manner when i asked what another dish was, he said “i thought you worked in a restaurant”, and ultimately asked, well what do you want?.. after telling him 3 different options I was willing to work with.

At the very least, charge half of the price of the side of avocado.

I asked for a spoon and the bus boy brought a dirty napkin with a sticky spoon, when I brought to his attention, he threw the spoon in the bucket and acted as if I was bothering him.

The service and hospitality by the restaurant and manager were horrible.

Now to the food, I had two eggs, potatoes, field greens and the avocado w toast. The potatoes were awfully bland. My girlfriends grits were beyond bland. The entire experience was awful, especially inexperienced,...
