issues:
Paper thing walls! I was in on the neighbourhoods jokes, it was that thin. Avoid the units right at the elevator, you will hear it and it seems to make the most noise every night at 12-1am. The walls were so thin I could talk to housekeeping using my normal voice while sitting on the bed and I have a quiet voice and am always being told to speak louder yet they heard me just fine enough yo have a conversation. This also means that you will hear the vacuuming every morning from housekeeping.
Speaking of the elevators… I hope you like to take the stairs. Only the first day of five that I was there the elevator was working properly. Other than that it was either stuck on another floor or was incredibly slow to get there that you might as well take the stairs instead because you’ll be waiting a while.
The stairs are NARROW and winded ! they are more like the maid/servant staircase. I saw multiple people trip coming up them. Not a staircase you want to see your grandma climb.
The railing of the staircase is also large in diameter but pushed up against the wall so unless you have an incredibly large hand size the majority of people wouldn’t be able to grip around the railing which seems like hazard to possible increase falling. If someone is coming up the stairs and you are coming down you’re going to have to turn sideways to get by.
Windowless for some rooms!! Like a Vegas casino, good luck telling the time while in your room if you’re unlucky enough to get a widow less room. Mine had shutters on and the glass was frosted so I couldn’t see out. On one hand it made it pitch black for sleeping but no natural light in a room for almost a week has got to make it stale in the room.
Don’t even get me started on the bed ! This bed literally sank while I was in it. There was one middle bar holding up both a box spring and the queen mattress. And as you can tell from the photo it was broken so barely supporting the weight of the mattress and box spring. I kept rolling to one side in the bed because of the lack of support.
You would think for the price that they charge they can at least make sure you can sleep in something that’s not going to fall apart.
No hot water and the drain doesn’t really drain. Oh how it continues if things not working as they are supposed to. 4/5 days the water was not hot. Ice cold water on a daily. I was only on the third floor yet so there should be no reason as to why there’s no hot water.
The drain also wasn’t very good and was all rusted.
The location is the only thing going for this place - the staff...
Read moreThings started out promising with an early check-in and a room that initially looked nice. Unfortunately, the experience went downhill from there.
On our first night, the bathtub wouldn’t drain. It filled up immediately, forcing us to shower in several inches of standing water that took 5–10 minutes to clear. We reported it the next morning, and the front desk assured us maintenance would take care of it while we were out. When we returned, nothing had changed. After another request that evening, we were told it had been fixed again, but it clearly wasn’t.
When we went back down to the desk, the woman working that night gave us noticeable attitude, insisting the issue had been resolved because the maintenance man said so. We asked her to send someone up while we were there so we could confirm it ourselves, and she agreed to do that. We also told her that if the issue couldn’t be fixed, we wanted to be moved to another room. At that point, she told us that we would have to speak with someone else at the front desk the next morning.
The maintenance worker arrived shortly after and spent nearly an hour trying to unclog the drain, even using a plunger. He was extremely kind and professional throughout that whole experience. While he was working on the drain, I received a call from the same front desk employee apologizing and admitting that maintenance had actually gone to the wrong room earlier in the day, which explained why the problem hadn’t been fixed.
The next morning, the staff told us we could switch rooms later in the day and offered to hold our luggage. When we returned that night, we got the new room, only to find the exact same drainage problem. To make matters worse, there were visible stains on the sheets. At that point, we decided not to waste more time asking for yet another room.
The “destination fee” of $33 per night supposedly includes daily bottled water, but when we asked, we were told they no longer provide it (even though it’s still listed on their website). Instead, we were directed to a water station with a visibly filthy, moldy filter that looked like it hadn’t been changed in years.
For a hotel charging over $400 a night after fees, this was completely unacceptable. Between the lack of follow-through, the dismissive attitude from the front desk, and the unsanitary conditions, this was an extremely disappointing experience. I would recommend spending a little more and staying...
Read moreWe stayed in this hotel about 15 years ago out of budget needs. It was a not-so-good memory maker. But, now, it was great. The upgrades are done correctly and the stay was perfect – well, almost perfect.|We stayed in a king bed room on the 8th floor. Bathroom and shower were small but efficient. The shower was so good we didn’t want to get out- but cut it short to save water. |The décor is white and more white which is a good choice because the rooms are still kind of small but we only sleep there so no problem. Bed was very comfortable, small closet, little desk and a decent TV. The phone was a little confusing- not that we sued it, but the message light came on twice and we had no idea how to listen to the messages but anyone actually looking for us would call our cell phone anyway so not a deal breaker. The price was very affordable but 2 days later, with Thanksgiving, the prices would have been more.|It is, very close to the Empire State Bldg. which if we craned our necks at our window, we could actually see some top floors and the spire) – also close to Macy’s, etc. Koreatown is outside the door so lots of selections for food and more coffee shops than I can recall. Also easy walk to theaters, Rockefeller Center, and not too bad a walk to Central Park. We like to walk. No discernable street noise while we were there on the 8th floor which is pretty amazing. |The lobby was nice but the bar and café were not open yet. We didn’t care. They did have a coffee / tea set-up there in the morning but this is not a B&B.|All the staff from the lobby staff to cleaning folks were just really nice and polite. Great job!|Ok- the one non-perfection item: walls are, apparently, thinner than one would expect in such a historic buildings. We say this because someone in a room adjacent to ours had a couple of major curse-laden meltdowns which woke us up. Not a big enough deal to complain, just rude behavior. We felt safe in the neighborhood even walking back late from a jazz performance in the Village one night. Would definitely book it again if we wanted to stay in this...
