We booked this hotel from a recommendation of The Guestbook, as we had accumulated credits through the website to use towards this booking.||I reserved directly on their website, with a 'pay at hotel' rate, mostly because I use a Canadian credit card while travelling and like to have control over the charges. I expected to provide the credit card to pay for the reservation upon our arrival. ||On our way to the airport on the day of our arrival, I received an email at 4:26am that our reservation was being cancelled due to non-payment. In a panic, I made another reservation on their website with the card I intended to pay at the hotel with. ||When we arrived at the front desk of the hotel, all winded, worried, frustrated and sweaty, we tried to explain our concern to the front desk clerk. He cut me off several times, and then very rudely explained that it was a 'boutique hotel' and he could just cancel the new reservation if we didn't like their policies. When I tried to explain that their policy was not stated on the website, and that it clearly says 'pay at hotel' he persisted with the threat to cancel our room.||He then tried to play the nice guy and honored the second reservation, took my payment, and even offered to 'upgrade' our room. He asked if we wanted the front or rear of the hotel, we asked which was quieter, and he indicated the front. We went off to our room, 1116. ||The lobby was stylish, well situated, and the location of the hotel was right in the middle of Koreatown, with easy access to restaurants, sights, and the subway line. |Upon entering our room, however, we were very disappointed. The room was the size of most bathrooms at other similarly priced hotels, with very little room to navigate around the bed. The washroom had a micro-bathtub, only about 3' wide, with a toilet and small vanity squeezed into the same room. There wasn't even enough room on the vanity to place our toiletries during our stay. ||The bed and bedding were comfortable and clean, however, that's where the cleanliness ended. The wallpaper was peeling in several places, there was black dust on the baseboards. The ceiling in the washroom was also peeling due to the lack of air circulation in such a small space. There was a safe and closet, although, they only provided 6 hangers.||The room was anything but quiet. We were subject to loud music until 3am on the first night, right outside our window. Other guests would allow doors to slam. The cleaning staff would still knock on our door, even with the 'do not disturb' sign hanging outside. There was no mini-fridge, and the ice maker was on the 4th floor. The only toiletries provided in the washroom were shampoo and lotion. The amenities were anything but 'boutique'.||The other concern we had during our stay was at the hotel's rooftop bar, K32. We went up twice during our stay, and only on the second time we realized the scam that was happening up there. Pay attention to your bill! We ordered 2 glasses of wine at $12/each and were provided with a $36 bill. We didn't receive the bill first, the server simply took my husband's credit card and rang it through. When we questioned the price upon receiving the signature slip, the server indicated it included tax and tip - he was giving himself a 20% tip. We asked for it to be reversed and left him no tip, simply because of the audacity of this assumption.||We would typically leave 15% for good service, 20% with bottle service. We are also very sure he did the same thing the first night we were there, although, we didn't receive a bill then either, so have no way of confirming.||All in all, we will not be staying at this...
Read moreEdit2 Management doesn't care about guests or the property. After I posted this review, housekeeping stopped servicing our room, unbelievable. No offer of reconciliation or compensation.
Edit1NOW THE COFFEE MACHINE IS EVEN OUT OF ORDER! AND THE ROOFTOP BAR CLOSED EARLY! WHAT ARE WE PAYING A RESORT FEE FOR?! DO NOT STAY HERE! My partner ended up having to ice his knee for 2 days after climbing 11 flights of stairs because the elevators don't work.
Do not stay here unless: -You enjoy climbing 11 flights of stairs to your room (the ONE functioning elevator eventually stopped working and my partner who needs a knee replacement had to climb said stairs causing excruciating pain, and ruining the remainder of our trip) Even when that elevator was working, we often had to wait up to 20 minutes for an elevator- please note this in case you are catching a train or scheduling ride-share..
-Enjoy freezing to death or sweating in a sauna-like environment, (ie your room). It was impossible to find a comfortable temperature.
-Don’t like basic amenities like 24 hour coffee or WORKING USB plugs. There were two usb plugs on the alarm clock, neither worked.(by the way that alarm clock went off at some crazy time in the morning without our setting it)
You like waiting 5 minutes for hot water to shower.
-Think consistent fast internet is overrated. Our WiFi was constantly freezing, kicking us off or running slow. I think this is a common problem because we frequently saw the lobby packed with people on their laptops.
-Don’t like light blocking curtains; they would never properly close, also letting the people in the all so close building next door have a great view into our room.
-Hearing your neighbor’s phone ringing at all hours and any conversation that ensues is your idea of a bedtime story’.Add to that doors slamming, conversations in the hall, etc
-You think paying a resort fee for a run down gym and horrible coffee (but only until 11 AM) is money well spent (see edit)
-You LOVE surprise fees like the $25 for the refrigerator and microwave that we were told came with the room.
-You don’t mind seeing images that nightmares are made of every time you turn the television on. I dont know what this was about, but it was CREEPY. I’ll add a photo if I can.
-Prefer the smell of trash and sewage over literally anything else NYC can throw your way once you walk out the door
-I’m trying to think of a clever way to describe the bed but it’s just weird. Super firm but with maybe a mattress topper? Dip in the middle. Everyone’s preferences are different, neither of us liked the bed.
-Like to exfoliate with your bath towel. Yes; that’s how scratchy they were, practically sandpaper.
The ONE absolutely bright and shining star of this hotel is the housekeeping and maintenance staff. The man who delivered our fridge and microwave was the best and the people cleaning the rooms were exceptional.
Otherwise, I would look elsewhere.
I have travelled across the US and the globe, staying in accommodations from hostels to 5-star luxury, and I have to say this was probably my 2 or 3rd worst experience in 30+...

OH BOY WHERE DO I START!
For context my friends and I stayed @The Fifth for 9 nights in a double Queen room.
When we were first checked in we were given room 915 - PLEASE TAKE NOTE of this number you continue to book this hotel.
It was outrageously small, we could barely fit nor open our three 45lbs suitcases.
Not only that but the room had 2 windows! Nice? Not! One of the windows was facing a brick wall so it got no light. Our other street facing window had a “temporary” AC unit (because the inbuilt one was broken) that had the curtains permanently closed with bulldog clips. Therefore the room was literally a dungeon and in complete darkness.
Not only that but this AC unit was also VERY loud - but if we turned it off the smell of smoke from the outside would waft into the level 9 room through the unit.
We approached front desk to which they had no other room that night, but promptly moved our rooms that next morning to 913.
Rooms: Our second room was slightly bigger than the previous to the point where we could open 2/3 suitcases comfortably (but it’s NYC so you cannot expect a lot of space)
All the beds we encountered in this hotel although large, were VERY squeaky and hard. Not comfortable at all.
The light in the hallway are so bright and not dimmed during the night to the point that light was coming in through the cracks in the doorframe.
The windows also are not soundproof. It is very busy in Koreatown so most nights it was constant noise.
I will however mention that housekeeping were great with keeping rooms clean and tidy.
There was an incident where our shower curtain was taken away and not replaced we did not notice until we came to our room at like 10pm.
We went straight to front desk. Which advertises itself as being a 24hr support front desk.
THE RUDE GIRL working the desk told us and I quote: “I literally have no one” - no apology no nothing.
We then asked sarcastically “Are we supposed to just mop up a completely wet bathroom with towels?”
She replied “Yeah”.
Not professional at all.
The next day we hoped to have an actual shower curtain installed by housekeeping but that was not the case.
It was about 9pm when we returned to the hotel that evening and THANK GOD the maintenance guy delivered it to our room, but, WE HAD TO INSTALL IT OURSELVES.
Our phone also did not work so whenever there was an issue: ie - not enough towels we had to physically go down to the front desk.
The two tiny elevators are also super slow.
The smell from the street was so bad some nights that it would actually flood into our LEVEL 9 room.
OVERALL: Avoid this hotel at all costs please! It is not worth it. Absolutely disgraceful and disgusting. Should not even have the title of a...
