This hotel is a hidden gem. It's literally hidden! You have to locate the right hotel within a row of businesses. It's next to the Martinique. ADA travelers be advised, there are two steps up to the building and a step up into the lobby. Even though I had told them in advance my friend has mobility issues, they didn't tell us there was a hidden elevator to the right of the door. Take that to the lobby! We found it by accident. ||This hotel is located in Koreatown, a street of shops and restaurants that would make the college students in my neighborhood swoon. There's a mix of American chains like Dunkin', other chains like Tiger Sugar Bubble Tea and independent businesses. Outside the hotel up a block, is a little plaza where there are food trucks and tables and chairs. The chairs get taken away around 10 PM. We tried the Korean-French bakery Tous Le Jours, the bakery Paris Bagette, had brunch at the Harold Bistro and food from Nathan's food truck. (Can't get any more New York than that!) The subway is right in front of the plaza but be advised it is NOT ADA compliant. There's also bus stops around the corner and the hotel staff were happy to print up directions for us and provide a subway map. Macy's Herald Square is nearby - about a 5-7 minute walk for someone who can walk easily. (THE Macy's, the flagship store). We didn't go very far because my friend has limited mobility. I walked back to Penn Station which is about 10 minutes away, dodging all the people and traffic. ||Check-in didn't quite go as smoothly as I had hoped but then the woman at the desk explained it was the young man's first time doing this. I was feeling a bit impatient because I wanted to go somewhere that closed in an hour and a half but more understanding when I learned the young man was new to the process. They gave us a bottle of water and information sheet. They provide 10% off coupons for restaurants on the street if you ask. We used two and that helped a LOT since we were traveling on a budget. NYC water is very drinkable so you can refill the plastic bottle with water from the tap. ||There's only one elevator and it goes up before it comes down even if no one is waiting. I never experienced any long waits or delays though even when everyone was checking out. ||I booked a deluxe room twin beds and they upgraded us to a lovely room with a seating area, a sleeping area with full size beds and accessible bathroom. My friend was able to check-in early without me at no extra cost. The room was in a corner steps from the elevator. The seating area featured the TV and TV cabinet with mini fridge hidden inside. There was a wooden bench, a chair and a small couch. This worked out well for us because I forgot my special pillow for placing under my rib cage and the sofa throw pillow helped keep my spine from curving. ||There were two air vents in the room and two thermostats. It was a warm day and I was worried the room would be hot. I turned the thermostat all the way down and turned the air to off and that kept the room a comfortable 70 degrees. Our room faced the street and there was a bit of noise until midnight and it quieted down a bit. There was some road work going on while we were out and about at 10 PM getting food but I didn't hear it inside. I live in a city and I'm more used to noise. My friend is from the suburbs and didn't mention any noise. We didn't hear any noise inside the hotel either. This is the quietest hotel I've ever been in. ||The beds were comfortable and the four pillows very soft. American travelers be advised the beds are made up European style with a duvet on top but no top sheet or blanket.||On the second floor each morning and afternoon the hotel has a coffee bar. I slipped out for tea while my friend slept in. They have a huge Keurig machine and lots of coffee pods and an urn of hot water for tea or hot chocolate (Swiss Miss). I tried the Harney & Sons Chinese Keemun breakfast tea. They only offer the tea bag and I felt the quality of tea was lacking in comparison to my customary Harney & Sons premium sachets or loose leaf. Luckily I brought my own tea! My friend liked it. We didn't try the breakfast since there were so many other options around.||They were able to hold my luggage while I visited a museum before returning to Penn Station. They also called my friend a cab back to LaGuardia and let her wait in the lobby.||If I come back to New York on my own I would probably stay here again. The location is convenient and it's so quiet and comfortable! Thank you for a...
Read moreRunaway from Bedbugs.
The hotel rooms were infested with Bedbugs. Colonies of bed bugs were found by the hotel staff themselves. When we found a bed bug running over our bed early in the morning, we took the bed bug and reported to the front desk. The front desk staff were very courteous (Fahmida and Tenjin) and asked us to move to another room. But the Hospitality Manager Sofia (rude) and the general manager Huang or Wong came to the new room and insisted that we move back to the original room, because the new room they gave us was apparently booked for a better price. When we insisted that we will not move to bed bug infested room, the general manager, Huong or Wong, kicked us out of the hotel. He called the security and gave us literally minutes to clear the hotel. We had to book a hotel in urgency and had to move out as the security was there to throw us out.
The general manager originally said he will issue full refund and later changed to partial refund only for the night that we got kicked out. Disgusting and dishonest general manager for a hotel. Most insulting experience ever in a hotel. Will never use this kind of hotel again.
Ruined our family's entire trip to NYC because of this despicable experience and the inhuman treatment by this arrogant and disgusting general manager who treated our family with no respect and kicked us out all because we politely reported a bed bug issue.
We had to quarantine all our luggage and ourselves after coming back and still feeling from the nightmarish experience we faced at this hotel. Bed bugs weren't the only problem.
Edit on 7/14 based in the insincere response and bag of lies from the hotel:
Your staff found infested colonies of bed bugs from Room 712, which did not look renovated. They had pictures on their phone that they showed to us, no way they came from our family who traveled directly from NC where we DO NOT HAVE any bedbug issues. Problem is with your hotel, ADMIT IT. Instead of spreading lies here, you should go check with your hotel staff and stop spreading the bedbugs.
Your staff mentioned that the new room you gave to us after reporting the bug, was booked by someone else and hence they asked us to move. Don't do false pretense, for you this is all a money game.
You are such a disgrace to the hospitality...
Read moreThe only main issue I had was the thermostat. They have a centralized thermostat so I could not cool the room down to my preference, but they immediately offered a fan when I brought up the issue.
The room was ok, it felt a little old with the design and furniture. I had an issue with my key twice (once at check in and another one in the middle of my stay), but I did get an upgrade to a bigger room, but had no windows which sucked because I would've liked to let air in.
But very good location. I've visited NYC multiple times, the location of the hotel is hard to beat. It's close to the BDFM lines (2 stops to times square) and 2 blocks away from 123 train lines / Penn Station, which is a cheaper option if traveling to EWR (rideshare apps was estimating $100+ from the hotel at 4AM, would be pricier during peak hours).
The street is lined with MULTIPLE restaurants / shops/ milk tea. It's in the heart of koreatown so you have tons of options, including an H Mart across the street, that's a really nice plus. There's also a major bank and Target about 2 blocks away. And a gym that is available via classpass that is about 3-4 blocks away.
Staff was friendly and I even got stopped by security to make sure I was a guest, which I was pleased about because it meant that they are prioritizing safety here.
I also left the hotel at 4:15 AM and the street was well-lit, did not feel unsafe and still had some foot traffic, so it was reassuring, especially if you are traveling to the train station. (make sure you don't book a super early flight because the first train might not be until 5AM).
For the price and value you get, I highly recommend this hotel. I would like to see them do a little upgrade in terms...
