The folks at Onion Tree Pizza Company are dishing out great Pizza with an Indian twist and a ridiculously delicious calzone among many other dishes.
The spot is run by Cjef Jay and his wife Raquel who has also have a Long Island location that was rated among the top 10 pizza spots in LI. Jay has also won pizza competitions and has been in the industry for over 25 years.
This Neopolitan style pizza is among the best pizza you will have in the City. When you talk Jay or their Chef Apaar about pizza science they will geek out on it with you.
My friend Nes said I had try this spot. I was intialy skeptical as I am a self proclaimed pizza snob. I mean, when your from NY you know your pizza right? 😁maaan, was I wrong?! This was great pizza!
The pizza dough is made the traditional Neopolitan way with flour from Naples. 72 hours fermentation, 73% hydration and 85% hydration on the Roman.
The fermentation and proper hydration gives pizza the nice fluffy airy crust and the crunch on the Roman pizza.
THE CALZONE! Wow. Daamn! You ever have calzone with sheek kabab inside!! My first and won't be my last loved it!
I had the chicken tikka masala pizza , roman masala margherita and a neopolitan style clazone with sheek kabab Wow!
Both pizzas were spicy and well balanced with an amazing airy crust. The dough is up there with the best pizza in town. It's not crazy spicy and you can take the chili off the pizza.
The chicken tikka pizza has traditional Indian flavors. The dough just elevates it.
The calzone with lamb sheek kabab was ridiculously good. The meat perfectly seasoned and tender. The dough is fermented the same way the pizza is so you get a great crust. If you like pizza and like trying new dishes, definitely go here .
They have traditional pizza as well and a vegetarian calzone on the menu. The pesto on the pizza is nut free.
It's a cool spot and opens up.in tje back. They have good cocktails at the bar as well.
Dosa Waffle was great. If you ever had a dosa you can relate to the flavors. Even if you haven't, it's a great take on a waffle.
Served with salsa called Kuchumber and Tharka, a traditional Indian base used when starting to cook a dish or finishing it. Made with ginger garlic, curry leaves, mustard seeds, cumin, kashmiri chili powder and ghee.
The onion rings are up there with the best! Was amazed how they retained the crispiness a while later
I had parsi wings and the voodoo. The voodoo was too hot for me. My friend Nes loved
If you like spicy hot wings, try this. The owner Jay came up with these. A secret spice rubbed wings served with Kachumber and tossed in a SPICY Tamarind/Ginger Sauce, served with Doon Chetin Chutney...

Read moreThis is one of the top restaurants on my list in NYC. We ordered so many different varieties of foods and nothing disappointed. Everything was delicious. The design of this place is right on for the East Village with their amazing murals of iconic musicians of the past. Their drinks were amazing. The tamarind ginger margarita was tasty. Jay's pan mule was out of this world. It took me into a spa with incense memory. We got the onion ring tower. Every topping was phenomenal. The red onion used was too die for. Best onion rings ever and the condiments were fantastic. The BURRATA CHAAT blew my mind. Housemade burrata. The blend of flavors. Best bite of my year. The Dosa Waffle aka chicken & waffles was devine. Again, the best I've ever had. The Masala Margarita and Saag Panner pizza was fantastic. Italian American approved. The Roman style and Napoli pizza dough was flavorful and honestly was a 10 out of 10. The braised lamb shank with roti was like an Indian birria version. Excellent. We ordered the sweet paan. 😋 I love spicy food but if you have a level you prefer or don't want spicy definitely mention it. The service was a 10 out of 10. Shout out to Shivam. Best service ever. We will be back to try everything else on the menu because everything looked delicious. They should have a Michelin star. No wonder they won a pizza award in NJ. Update: went to their Omkase the other night. Worth it. Seafood and duck and vegetarian options. Delicious. I liced the lobster, scallops, portobello mushrooms, paneers, roman breads, the duck and jackfruit pizza was to die for and the dessert rose jam sandwich yogurt dip was one of the best desserts ever. Great wine...
