If you have been going crazy going through artist instagrams or going into shops to try and find the right artist you can all just stop that now. If you’re in nyc or can get yourself to nyc, Fun City is the place to go. They do it all. They are so professional. Julian is so great at scheduling the artist so you’re not stuck waiting around. When I first walked in for the first tattoo is when I met Julian, he was so warm and welcoming. I showed Julian the photo of what I wanted. He proceeded to write down all the artists instagrams and the shops instagram so I could go through each artist’s artwork to see which artist fit best with what I wanted done. He was not pushy at all which made me want to make the appointment more. Nothing is worse than walking into a shop and they’re trying to get you to make a deposit asap. He let me take my time to choose the artist I wanted. He makes booking so easy, he’s an awesome guy. I went with Ryan. Ryan is such a great dude. Even before I chose him as my artist he got up to recommend the placement for what I was getting. All the artists are extremely talented but I went with Ryan and I’m so happy I did. He actually listens to what you want and adds his own input that makes the tattoo even better. I have gotten two absolutely amazing and beautiful tattoos from him. He’s such a cool and chill person. He always tells me to let him know if I need a break or he will ask me mid tattoo if I’m ok and need a break. I’m so happy I walked into Fun City. I was looking for so long just for one artist to do all my tattoos. I prefer to have one artist than many but that’s just my preference. I’m so happy Ryan is the one that will be completing my sleeve. Like I said before if you’re looking for a shop this is the shop to go to. You feel like you’re amongst friends. Everyone is so chill and friendly. There’s great music playing, it’s just good vibes in there. Do yourself the favor and get a tattoo from Fun City. The photos of the most recent one/second one the second skin was already put on but you can still see how amazing the tattoo is. I’ll make sure to post some healed photos soon so everyone can see how beautiful this tattoo is.Thank you so much to Ryan and the whole Fun City crew ! You guys...
Read moreIt had been a while since Camille wanted to get la ram (The Prime Zodiac Symbol for Aries) tattooed on her arm. Walking around the Lower East Side we happened to run into the famous Fun City Tattoo Store (at St Marks since 1989). At the moment I didn’t know this but Fun City emerged as one of New York City’s first legitimate walk-in tattoo shops that merged fine art with hardcore and punk.
A very nice lady Genna welcomed us to the place as she inquired about the tattoo we were looking for. Camille had a vague idea of what she wanted. She collected a few pictures of drawings and tattoos to show as references. Genna asked us to wait while she showed the references to the artist Joel Baca who was drawing on the back.
When Joel had finished the draft (no longer than 15 minutes), Genna showed it to us. Joel took the references, made a beautiful sketch of the ram with the style Camille liked and added a few elements of his own, like flowers and some old school ornaments, Camille loved the whole concept. Joel made 2 different sizes for the stencil. Camille chose the smallest one and the session began.
I asked Joel and Genna if it was ok for me to use my camera to shoot a video. They said it was fine and I started to play around with my DJI Osmo Pocket.
They allowed me to go around the store recording everything. The store is like a small museum of Tattoo. There’s a lot of different art on every corner. At every moment I felt welcomed and all of the personnel were very kind. After 2 hours, Joel had finished the tattoo, and Camille was very, very happy with the result.
Joel and Genna shared the instructions to take care of Camille’s new tattoo and we left, with a great experience and a short video to remember it.
If you’re ever out there looking for a good place with great artists and nice people to get a tattoo, please make sure to...
Read moreMy roommate heard about this place, and we decided rather spontaneously to check this tattoo shop out a few days ago. A cursory google search revealed that Fun City Tattoo is not only one of the oldest standing tattoo shops in the city, but it is also very highly rated among reviewers and tattoo publications. I walked in on a Thursday afternoon without an appointment, and the shop was spotless yet casual.
The receptionist was extremely friendly and helpful in pairing me up with the most appropriate tattoo artist for the design I had in mind - Lorenzo. Within a few minutes, I was seated in a chair and getting prepped for my first tattoo! I found Lorenzo to be very calm, confident, and friendly. More importantly, I noticed that Lorenzo and the other artists at Fun City were extremely diligent about cleanliness and safety. Everything was sterilized before use, and all artists are expected to wear gloves throughout the entire process (see picture).
Lorenzo, as an artist, is extremely talented especially with symmetric designs involving sharp lines & geometric shapes. He also has a gentler, but still extremely precise touch with the needle. I am extremely satisfied with how the tattoo has turned out, and the quality of work is definitely worth the higher price. I plan on coming back here again for another tattoo soon!
