Tsushima: A True Taste of Japan in the Heart of NYC

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Tsushima in NYC is a true gem for anyone seeking authentic Japanese cuisine in the bustling city. From the moment you walk in, it's clear that this restaurant is something special. Staffed entirely by a welcoming Japanese team, the atmosphere is filled with genuine hospitality, making you feel as if you've been transported straight to Japan.

The food is absolutely outstanding, with each dish showcasing the finest in traditional Japanese flavors. What makes Tsushima truly exceptional is the attention to detail in both taste and presentation. You can tell that the chefs take great pride in their craft, ensuring every dish is a work of art on your plate.

Surprisingly, Tsushima offers a very reasonable price point considering the high quality of the food and service. It's rare to find such an exquisite dining experience that doesn't break the bank, but Tsushima has managed to strike the perfect balance.

It's no wonder that this restaurant attracts a clientele of discerning Japanese customers, as well as locals and tourists alike. When dining at Tsushima, you can expect nothing less than a 5-star experience that will leave you craving more.

If you're in NYC and looking for an unforgettable Japanese culinary experience, do yourself a favor and pay a visit to Tsushima. You won't be...

This was very disappointing. We came on New Years Eve, 2019, which can be a busy night for restaurants, but it’s no reason to treat customers like cattle, trying to get them in and out as quick as possible. I felt like the whole dinner was rushed. Anytime we asked our server, an older Asian man whom I think was actually Chinese, he seemed bothered by our questions and wasn’t helpful, or cheerful at all. Every time we finished our plates, within 30 seconds, they came by and took the finished plate immediately (which seems like attentiveness but actually felt like being rushed). The sashimi was overpriced. We had the small sake order to share which was okay. We also had the TOKYO friend chicken, fried oysters, edamame, bara chirashi bowl, and spicy tuna roll. The oysters were good but everything was average. Very disappointing for Japanese cuisine. At the end, we left a 10% tip because the quality of the food was average and service was bad - the server CHASED us out the restaurant demanding more tip. Overall, not worth the value...will not...

Came here for a business lunch, the place was super packed but hummed efficiency and organization with how it was managed. I ordered from their daily special menu and got the Tuesday special (Chirashi, an assortment of chef's choice Sashimi over a bed of sushi rice, highly recommend!). I think it is a good idea to always start with the daily special menu as they update it often and full of (good) surprises! You could always go back to the regular lunch menu if nothing interests you. Lunch special came with a miso soup and salad, within like 7 minutes of ordering! Very impressive with the speed! The Chirashi was beautiful, fresh and delicious! Great value for the price, $20? I had cuts from yellowtail, flute, tuna, salmon, scallops and one other unknown but delicious fish... Staff refilled my tea promptly through out lunch, didn't feel rushed at all, had a good conversation with my friend and managed to leave under an hour! Will definitely come back for other...

I came here because I was not able to get a table in sushi yasuda. I saw the photos and ratings and thought I could give it a try!! Totally regretted it! I almost cried by sitting down and seeing the menu and everything else. To be honest, this is not a bad restaurant, but it is definitely not a four star rating and three dollar sign restaurant. Probably $$. They gave you a pre-made and hidden in the counter salad once you ordered, which tasted funny. I had a bite and put it aside. The eel maki was the only decent thing in the premium lunch package, or whatever they called. The sashimi was tasteless and it is either not from a good part of a fish or they don’t know how to cut it properly, so you won’t be able to chew some stuff. If you understand sushi, do not come here with expectation.

This is my favorite sushi restaurant in NYC so far, in terms of both value and all around variety. They have everything from a weekend lunch menu with cheaper options to a mid-level 'edomae nigiri' option (basically a chef's choice of edomae-style nigiri) and of course a top flight omakase. The non-sushi stuff is also excellent, from the Tokyo chicken to beef tongue, I've never had anything disappointing. They also have a decent sake selection, from good cheaper options to the more expensive fancier ones. Note that my experience is based primarily on the appetizers and nigiri; the only rolls I've tried are the ones that come with the edomae nigiri menu (I usually get blue fin tuna or spicy salmon avocado, both are good).

Went for restaurant week, didn’t know what to expect bc I couldn’t find their menu anywhere, but here it is. After we were seated we weren’t even offered the RW menu and had to ask for it. When I ordered the server double checked that I was aware this was a DIY hand roll dish and for some reason it felt like they were warning me not to order it. I didn’t expect much but still ordered it out of curiosity, and it definitely was as disappointing as expected lol. The portion size definitely was not worth the price, and neither was the quality of food. It was $59, just a reminder. My friend ordered a chirashi don and felt exactly the same way. Won’t be coming again for the overpriced low quality food.
