Unfortunately, I have to leave a two star here today. I didn’t want to leave any to be honest. I arrived at the comfort diner this morning after working an overnight shift. When I clocked out from my shift I began to search for a place that served biscuits and gravy, one of my favorite COMFORT breakfast options. I’m from Michigan so, I’m use to having this meal often, as many of the people I know are use to as well. I literally called eight different restaurants inquiring about menu items. I call because, I know some things posted online aren’t always up to date. Well the comfort diner was my last call as they confirmed that they in fact have what I was inquiring about. I work in Brooklyn, but I’m living in upper Manhattan. So, I definitely came completely out of my way to enjoy a nice meal at a “classic” place that had a good google rating. When I arrived I was greeted with a sign that said stop and wait to be seated basically. That’s what I did. I was seated and given a menu. The waiter took my drink order and returned for my food order, as I was not ready to order at the time that she asked me. In the mean time she continued to take other orders. Which was fine obviously. Chance had it that I was sitting me to the owners son and some of his co-workers perhaps, I’m not positive. He spoke good things about this diner. Apparently this place is like a local favorite. I wasn’t worried at all, everyone around me seemed to be enjoying their meals. When it came time for me to receive my food I was super excited to enjoy! But sadly the food was not prepared for me with care. MY HOME FRIES WERE DARK BROWN AND BURNT, MY GRITS WERE SERVED ON THE PLATE WITH MY OTHER FOOD, THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN A BOWEL, THEY WERE VERY STIFF. I ORDERED CHEESE ON THE GRITES , THE CHEESE WAS SLICED CHEESE THAT WAS NOT MIXED/MELTED PROPERLY INTO THE GRITS, THERE WAS NO BUTTER. MY BREAKFAST CAME WITH 2 EGGS OF CHOICE AND OF COURSE THE BISCUITS AND GRAVY. I ORDERED OVER EASY EGGS THAT WERE A LITTLE UNDER COOKED AND MY BISCUITS AND GRAVY WAS NOT HOT AS THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN. THE ONLY GOOD THINGS THAT I CAN SAY ABOUT MY EXPERIENCE THIS MORING IS THAT, I WAS GREETED KINDLY, MY WAITRESS WAS ATTENTIVE AND POLITE, THE PLACE IS CLEAN, AND THAT THE BISCUITS WERE SWEET, HOW I LIKE THEM. I was very disappointed because I was sure that I was in for a real classic treat :/ EACH ITEM ON THE MENU NEEDS TO BE PREPARED WITH THE SAME CARE. EVEN THE ITEMS THAT MAY BE ORDERED LESS OFTEN. IF THAT IS NOT POSSIBLE THEN, THE MENU NEEDS TO...

We didn't even leave with food. We're headed back south from our trip and decided to eat here before leaving. But, as we're setting our stuff in the booth the hostess was being extremely rude. There are three of us plus our luggage so we sat at the booth with two small tables. She proceeded to ask us if we were going to take two tables like it was a problem. Mind you there are three of us plus our stuff at two tables with settings for two people per small square table, so yeah even without our stuff we would need two tables, and the booths are too small for us.

She even said we could set our stuff on the floor to get us to use one table. Which wouldn't have worked since we had a ton of stuff, backpacks and bags in each hand. If we would have done that no one would be able to walk. It's a fire hazard and the floor wasn't that clean.

Looking at the time it made more sense to to get take out so we wouldn't miss our flight. So, we asked for it to go. We saw the rude chick say something to here, and after sitting for a bit the other lady said we would have to sit at the tabletop area to order take out. We were already done with the first chick, so the idea of getting up with all of our things just to order take out was not even worth it.

We weren't even the only people on the receiving end of her attitude. I didn't catch her name, but it was the skinny chick with the ponytail that feels the need to keep saying the same thing before you can formulate a response. There is nothing comforting about this dinner at least not if she's working there. She needs an attitude check.

We ended up leaving without having our order made. The other lady was pretty nice, so there isn't any confusion if the owner(s) of this...

TLDR: WILL NOT RECOMMEND. PAINFULLY RUDE OLD LADY. Bland and incomplete food, bad service.

If I could give 0 stars, I would. We first got there with a hungry toddler. Waiting 5 minutes in a semi-full restaurant for a menu. When I raised my hand, the older lady yelled at me and said, " can't you wait? The (one) server has a whole section." My husband told her sorry. To which I asked him why he apologized, right in front of her.

At that point, i knew we were going to have the time of our lives. The 3 of us placed our orders after 10 minutes or so of holding the menu and food came out 20 minutes later. We had ordered a side of turkey bacon for myself, and sausage for my husband. We had asked for it twice, and I had finished my pancakes by the time they came out. The same lady came and yelled at my husband that he had told her the wrong thing.

I was going to respond, because I don't take lightly to disrespect as I would never go out of my way to be rude, but my husband told me to let it go.

They are smart in adding automatic gratuity because they would have gotten NOTHING from me.

The additional tip was obviously a big fat $0, with a note asking them to be kind to their customers. We are not your kids. We came here to have a decent meal and this is transactional. You are doing us no favors. If you are shortstaffed, hire more people. Don't put it on your customers to deal with your...

We were caught in the middle of a heavy rainstorm, and was craving for breakfast for brunch. Found this little place right near our hotel that serves bisquits and gravy, and thought, hey, let's give it a go since we have never tasted bisquits prepared on the east side of the country. First off, we waited at the entrance to see if we were supposed to wait to be seated. There was no sign, the servers walked around us, saw us, but ignored us like we weren't there, so, we thought maybe we should seat ourselves as it was our first time in NYC. We found a booth and sat down. After a long wait, we were told to move to a table seat right near the door, without letting us know what was going on, nor checking if we had wanted a booth or a table. Hubby was pissed, so we headed out. The server was apologetic, we knew it was not the server's fault. There were available booths and the restaurant was not crowded at the time we were there. So, we were given a booth inside the restaurant, and we were good. Apart from all that, I must say the food was pretty awesome. Bisquits were sweet, unlike the savoury kind we have back home; first time having grits with biscuits and gravy, so it was something new. Overall, our day was not completely ruined, and that was really something.

I visited The Comfort Diner for breakfast, drawn by its classic diner style. I ordered The Leo, and the food itself was decent, but it cooled off quickly so don't hang around. The diner's atmosphere is a little let down by the lack of natural light. It feels quite enclosed, and it's not possible to have a view outside while dining. The biggest issue was the service regarding the coffee. After asking for a top-up, I waited a significant time - long enough that I had finished my food. When I followed up on the request, I was informed that the staff were still waiting for a fresh batch to be ready. It's definitely a faux pas for a diner to run out of coffee during the morning (especially as the place wasn't busy). Even once the fresh coffee was made, there was no urgency to serve it. Overall, I wasn't particularly impressed with the experience. There are plenty of other great options available in the area.
