Although, the food was ok. The staff should educate themselves about serving people with service animals. We walked in today asking for a table, with someone in our group using a service animal. The staff first told us that no dogs are allowed inside and then called the manager. When we indicated that the dog is a service dog, we were seated at a table, but the treatment felt like they are doing us a favor. The dog by the way was wearing the service animal vest, is a lab (the most common service animal breed), so an animal that actually performs a medical service for its owner. Anyone with this basic knowledge would be more mindful when treating customers with service dogs. Verde on Smith, you can do better!
UPDATE: since the owner responded, I feel the need to respond as well - by New York Law, service animals are protected and so are people using them. Service animals are not pets and are trained to be behaving a certain way that is not disruptive. As a restaurant owner you should know or look into laws and regulations surrounding people using service animal and accommodations. The comment you left speaks about your ignorance. Please do a simple Google search of 'New York City service animals'. For example, the office of Mayor summarizes the treatment quite nicely.
I also don't understand the need to attack my character. I was commenting on our experience and perception of things. We did not ask to be seated at a 6-person and when we came in, there were plenty of tables in the back. All we wanted to do, was to enjoy eating out - instead half of the time I spent was trying to distract myself and my friend from the treatment...
Read moreAfter an amazing brunch experience at Verde on Smith last week, I couldn’t wait to come back and try more of their menu. My friend and I were so impressed the first time that we felt the need to return just a week later. Unfortunately, this visit didn’t live up to our expectations.
This time, I decided to try the Shrimp Alfredo Pasta, trusting that the quality of their brunch would carry over to their lunch and dinner options. Sadly, it was completely underwhelming. The dish had zero seasoning—the sauce wasn’t creamy, lacked any cheese flavor, and tasted like plain milk mixed with noodles. The shrimp on top did nothing to save it. It was disappointing, to say the least.
One thing I’ve learned from this visit is that Verde on Smith truly excels at brunch, but their lunch and dinner entrées seem to lack the same love, care, and attention to detail. If you’re coming here, I’d highly recommend sticking to the breakfast menu—that’s what they seem to do best.
Another letdown was the service. Last week, we had an impeccable experience, but this time, the service felt inattentive and indifferent. It was a noticeable shift from the warm and welcoming atmosphere we had previously enjoyed.
Overall, if you’re looking for a great brunch spot, Verde on Smith is a solid choice. But if you’re planning to come for lunch or dinner, I’d suggest managing your expectations—or sticking to what they do...
Read moreMy favorite brunch spot hands down! I have been coming here for a little over a year now. The food and drinks are equally as amazing. They have a great bottomless brunch ($17 for 1 hour). The environment is ideal and compliant with social distancing and all of the CDC’s COVID guidelines. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and the music is always a nice blend. My go to meal is their Viva Nutella Crepe (delicious!) with a side of eggs and smoked salmon (yum!). When I’m feeling bold I get the Greek Omelette (no olives with smoked salmon & tomatoes 😋). My boyfriend switches between the French toast and pancakes (he still doesn’t know which one he likes more lol). This spot is great for a date and also for groups; I came here for my twin nieces 12th birthday with at least 8-10 people and we were accommodated well. Keep in mind the wait on any Saturday can be anywhere from 30 mins to an hour but it’s always worth it. Their brunch is also available during weekdays. The entire staff and overall hospitality of Verde’s is one of the reasons it is one of my favorite restaurants. They have a garden in the back with a ceiling that opens up and heaters to keep warm as well as outdoor seating...
