I've been going to vinny's for years and I have never had an issue until Thursday 11-18-21, When I ordered a Shrimp Parmesan Hero for take out after work. I picked it up around 9pm and when I got home I realized I was overcharged. It was $23.00 dollars for a $14.00 dollar sandwich. I called Vinny's to inform them of mishap and I was told that I would need to dispute the issue with my bank because they only charged me $14.00 dollars and my bank must have charged me the additional $9.00 dollars. I informed them that it was not my bank and it had to be a mistake by the restaurant. I was then told to call back to speak to the supervisor. I called back the following day and I spoke with the supervisor to see if she would be able to credit my debt card back the $9.00 dollars, she asked me if I had my receipt, I told her no however, I signed a copy which should be at the restaurant. She asked me to give her my contact information and she would get back to me. In addition, I provided her with my full name, the time that I placed my order and the last 4 digit of my card number. Days later she never got back to me. I had to call back today and then I was informed that the restaurant is not equipped with the system to refund the money back to my debit card and was told that I would need to come back to the restaurant to get the $9.00 dollars which was a huge inconvenience because I don't live close to the restaurant. After going back and forth from Thursday until Monday about the issue that the restaurant caused, the supervisor still waited until I pulled up my bank statement to give me back my money even when she knew they were in the wrong. One of the workers confirmed that this is in fact a reoccurring issue that the restaurant has been having with over charging customers. It was very unfair that I had to waste my time and gas to go retrieve money that should have never been taken out if my account in the first place and nothing was done for the inconvenience. Beware with purchasing food from this restaurant with your debit or...
Read moreVinny has one of the absolute best chicken parm heros that I have ever had in Brooklyn, NYC, wherever. But to accurately explain to you how satisfied I was with the sandwich, I need to tell a story. Apologies for the long review.... actually, no I'm not sorry because this is a dope f'ing hero and the world needs to know it exists. Plus let's be honest, if you're on google reviews in the first place, you obviously have nothing else between to do.
So the day started off just like any Saturday: woke up around 9am, annoyed my girlfriend, had my morning coffee, walked the dog, annoyed my girlfriend some more, read some, and then started watching The Sopranos (6th rewatch). And all of a sudden, I get a craving for a chicken parm hero (HAVE NO IDEA HOW THAT HAPPENED, I SWEAR!!!)
So I did a little research and found a place called Vinny's Of Carroll Gardens...ok this looks promising. So I suit up, grabbed my phone and book, and took a bus adventure to Carrol Gardens(one thing to know is this place is 40 minutes away). I get there, order from two Italian, mafioso-types with thick Brooklyn accents, pay (I tipped well) and start making my way back home. As I was heading back I was a bit worried that the hero wouldn't be as good by the time I get home but knew the comfort of eating in my living room would be worth it. And it was!! Even when it wasn't scolding hot, the sandwich was still incredible!!
So 10/10 AA++++, Definitely support this place. You'll feel good all over :)
P.S. I have a confess to make: I didn't really wait til I got home. I ate that that sh*t while walking like a savage and I didn't care!! But hey it was a good story...
Read moreThis is my go-to Italian restaurant, and I love it. Few restaurants in NYC survive for ten years, let alone twenty-six—one taste and you’ll instantly see why.
Let’s be clear: If you’re looking for old-country authenticity that is just like your Italian nonna’s cooking, or a trendy, extremely upscale avant-garde spot that is clearly gunning for a Michelin star, look elsewhere—there are plenty of other Italian restaurants in the vicinity that fill that niche better.
But if you want Italian-American comfort food the way Italian families in NYC have been making it at home for at least a hundred years, the kind for which your neighborhood pizzeria’s non-pizza dinner entrees are but a pale imitation, this spot is unsurpassed. They’ve got the best chicken parm in the city (crispy and slathered in a rich, tangy marinara), the best spaghetti bolognese in the city (robust with Italian spices, warm and crumbly, perfectly balanced, sticks to your ribs).
If you want to know what a great Italian-American meal of meat, pasta, and red sauce actually worth $20 tastes like, not that cynical nonsense they serve you at the likes of Olive Garden, this is the place. Bring your Midwestern friends from Podunk who grew up eating pasta at their local family restaurant and wow their socks off. It’s not chic or Instagram-friendly, but it is the finest possible version of the Italian food most of America remembers, big city pretensions be damned.
Also, the atmosphere is cozy and the wait staff are absolute sweethearts. Highly...
