When the moon hits the sky like a big Willi pie ... it's amore ...
My ideal pizza is a crafted thin crust with a chewy centre, a bit of crunch and lots of passion. So here I find yet another reason to salute New York.
After the U.S. Civil War (which resulted in over a half million killed or wounded) immigrant workers were recruited from Italy and elsewhere to fill the US labour shortage caused by the war. Then in 1905 the first pizza license was granted to a Italian grocer in Manhattan. So, if you want to taste the best "pizza da pie", it's safe to say that NY is not only the place but...

Williamsburg Pizza was recently named NY mag's Best Slice Joint. A high accolade for a city crowded with pizza so I knew this place was going to be good. Nothing could prepare me though for a pizza slice that you can hold horizontally that stays up. The thin crust disc is crispy enough for a good crunch but chewy enough to devour. Maybe their secret is in the bubbled dough that looks deep fried but without all the grease?
Grab a lunch time slice unless you're brave and take on a $15-28 dollar pie bigger than your head. What possessed us to go for the latter? I have no idea. Next time, I will definitely go for slices and try the entire menu. With the Brooklyn banter in unpretentious surroundings @WburgPizza is a slice of advice that you have to take.

Read moreAfter reading reviews online I decided to check out Williamsburg pizza while visiting brooklyn for the first time. This was the worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life. I was rushed through placing my order as the attendant that answered the phone acted as if she didn't have the time to serve me. After waiting over an hour for my pizza, they delivered me the wrong pizza. I called to get my order corrected and the lady answering the phone proceeded to tell me that they didn't get my order wrong and that was what I ordered. She acted as if she didn't want to help me in correcting my order and getting me the food that I had originally ordered. After having to ask for a new pizza she just said okay and hung up on me. If she would have listened to me when I made my original order instead of rushing me off the phone then this would not have happened. Furthermore, if she would have been apologetic and willing to fix her mistake I would have been happy. Horrible, horrible, horrible...
Read moreNormally the pizza is decent. I ordered a Caesar salad tonight and thought to share it between three people. For $12.25 one would expect it to be an entree size. Imagine my shock when I received a tiny box with a handful of lettuce. Granted I asked for no croutons, but NO ONE HAS ANY BUSINESS CHARGING THIS MUCH FOR A HANDFUL OF ROMAINE LETTUCE! BUYER BEWARE. I called back and they verified that this was the price for this size salad. The quality of this place has really gone downhill in the last couple of years. It used to have great pizza and other entrees. Now it is quite different.
I called again to ask them to pick it back up for a refund and spoke to someone who seemed to have more sense. They gave me a full refund for the salad. However - beware of what you will receive...
