12Pell is a hidden gem tucked away in the heart of Chinatown. It is well kept, clean, and organized. The staff are super friendly, welcoming and eager to help assist their customers. The interior is modern and sleek; you will find fashionable apparel and new hair & skin care products displayed on the shelves. (With regards to CDC compliancy, 12Pell is on top of their game. You will be asked to fill out COVID questionnaire prior to your appointment; upon entry into the store, your temperature will be checked and given hand sanitizer.) This is an excellent and high-quality barbershop. Tim has been my hair expert for the past year and I HIGHLY recommend him. He knows his craft and absolutely kills it every time he cuts my hair. He is highly experienced, patient, detailed, and friendly. I had grown my hair out for about two years and decided it was a time for a new look. Tim helped me step into a whole new season (check out before/after photos for transformation). He recommended hair products for me to use that wouldn't dry out my scalp (don't use products containing sulfates, parabens or alcohol). I have gotten multiple compliments about my haircut, all thanks to Tim. Hopefully, the message is clear: you NEED to see Tim. **And if you can't book Tim (his schedule does get filled quickly; I made the mistake of going to a less expensive, nearby barber... let's just say I got what I paid for...), then find the next available 12Pell barber. You'll be doing yourself a favor by supporting local business and getting a fresh cut from a quality barbershop.** Undoubtedly, 12Pell is helping reshape Chinatown into a vibrant community by honoring its past and casting new vision for its future. Don't sleep on this barbershop. Go head- book your appointment now

Pros: I've been coming to 12 Pell ever since I moved back to NYC last year and as a man with Asian hair, I can confidently say you'd be hard pressed to find a place that has more knowledge and technique on how to manage unruly straight hair and find the best hairstyles suited for Asian skin and faces, plain and simple. Every one of the barbers here are dedicated to the craft and can tell you everything there is to know about your unique hair and how to best work with it. My barber, Franky, no exception. Most barbers struggle with the unique growth pattern on the back of my neck, but Franky's managed to give me a clean skin fade or taper fade (I switch up on him regularly depending on my mood) every single time. He also does a damn good job keeping the top long, clean and textured the way I like it. Franky listens to your wants, takes into account your face shape and hair type, and will give you real feedback on what's possible and what's not, and has the technique to give you the best cut possible. He's my go-to. Book "Walk-In 3" online if you want to get a cut with him. Cons: I'll only dock a star from this place because for the price point, I definitely think a hair wash and a hotel towel should come standard. But considering the massive amount of popularity 12 Pell's come across, I can understand it's just not feasible with all the volume these guys bring in. Would love to see these guys expand further and build a bigger space that delivers a high-quality experience before and during the cut.

I've been looking for a new Barber since my "go to" closed after covid. I've tried a few places that looked good and had good reviews but didn't live up to the hype. But 12 Pell is an excellent shop. I had Tim and he was spectacular. He took the time to get to know what I was looking for and what I'd tried in the past. He explained exactly what he was doing and made sure I agreed with his plan. He spent time creating a very collaborative experience. His technique was polished and his gear was top of the line. I definitely got the best cut I've had in years as a result. He gave me some spot on styling tips specific to my hair type. My favorite part was that he meticulously reviewed his own work - tracking down any stray hairs and making sure everything was spot on: he's a real professional. The vibe of the place made it clear they were very "customer experience" oriented, and they nailed it. I felt comfortable and taken care from the moment I walked in. Every chair was filled (while maintaining excellent covid protections) which says a lot, and everyone there had good relationships with their clients. I've been to places where there was animosity between the different barbers and that's always awkward. The place is clean and well lit, calm music, a very relaxing environment. The price point is spot on, if not below market for what I got. I've spent a lot more for worse service and worse cuts. I'm ecstatic I found 12 Pell and that it had real substance and not just hype.

I very bluntly told Tim that I am NOT a review kinda person. It sucks cause there are so many people that truly deserve the review and I recognize how much it helps but I just don’t take the time to do it (it’s a sickness). However, I will take the time to write one this time to whoever might be on the fence about getting a haircut here. It’s not just the philosophy around 12Pell and the great work that those folks do there. This is more so for Tim, I’m sure everyone is great but I can’t stop talking about the experience with my haircut. I grow my hair out to donate to Wigs for Kids and because of that I don’t really care about my appearance, but one of my best friends told me about 12Pell when I told him I’m close to donating a second time. I had never gotten a “real” haircut and definitely not one where they took into consideration my face shape, my lifestyle, my goals (in this case growing it out again for a third donation), etc.

All crucial things that most don’t think about but Tim took the time and energy to get really deep into these subjects. I was surprised by his level of breadth and depth on various options and presenting me with the pros and cons of each. I came in with this mentality of “do whatever you think is best” and I was met with a collaborative effort that took into consideration many things beyond the surface level aesthetic of the cut. This was truly apparent when I told him no other hair stylist, barber, etc has known what to do with a little swirl/cow lick situation I got going on on the back of my head and he was able to find a good, intuitive, yet simple solution to this problem that no one has cared to tackle before.

As a designer I appreciated my experience a lot more than I think the general population would. Tim isn’t just cutting hair, he is designing. This is art and people should definitely respect the craft and see it as more than just a haircut. To design and create art is to look beyond the surface level problem in front of you. It’s considering various aspects such as the ones outlined above (hair texture, lifestyle, time willing to spend on getting ready, previous haircuts and what I like and didn’t like about them, etc)

Tim is hands down my guy and will be going back to him when I’m ready to donate again. Truly a fantastic job and my girlfriend is obsessed with the cut and so am I. Can’t deny I am starting to actually care about my looks now thanks to Tim and for the time he took to show me and explain to me exactly how to style it and take care of my hair.

1000/10 would recommend. Treat your barbers with respect and appreciation for their craft and I promise you will not be disappointed (when it comes to Tim and I’m sure the other...

I recently had the pleasure of visiting 12 Pell Barbershop for a haircut, and I must say it was an extraordinary experience! From the moment I walked through the door, I was greeted with a warm and friendly atmosphere that immediately put me at ease. Simon, my barber, was an absolute professional who exceeded my expectations.

First and foremost, Simon's skills as a barber are unmatched. He took the time to listen to my preferences and offered expert advice on what would work best for me. His attention to detail was impeccable, ensuring every snip and trim was done with precision and care. The end result was a haircut that perfectly matched my style and left me feeling confident and refreshed.

Not only does Simon possess exceptional technical skills, but his customer service is top-notch as well. Throughout the entire process, he engaged in friendly conversation, making me feel comfortable and engaged. It was evident that he genuinely cared about providing the best experience possible, and his passion for his craft was truly inspiring.

The ambiance of 12 Pell Barbershop is worth mentioning too. The place is clean, well-maintained, and exudes a trendy yet welcoming vibe. The attention to detail in the interior design, coupled with the upbeat music playing in the background, creates a pleasant environment where you can truly relax and enjoy the experience.

Furthermore, the staff at 12 Pell is fantastic. Everyone I encountered was friendly, professional, and attentive. The receptionist was helpful in accommodating my appointment and made the check-in process seamless.

Overall, my visit to 12 Pell Barbershop, specifically with Simon, was exceptional. The combination of Simon's talent, genuine care, and the overall atmosphere of the barbershop made for a memorable experience. I left feeling more than satisfied with my haircut and will undoubtedly be returning in the future. If you're looking for a skilled barber and a barbershop with an inviting atmosphere, I highly recommend 12 Pell and Simon. You won't be disappointed!

Thank you, Simon and the team at 12 Pell Barbershop, for the outstanding service and attention to detail. You've gained a loyal...

First time here, I booked with Kevin. Really disappointed in this place considering their reputation as well as price ($45 plus a 10$ tip.) I came in here with a picture to show the barber, making it well known that I wanted something low maintenance and that I've gotten a ton of fades in the past and really liked them, but wasn't looking to get one due to the constant need for another haircut to keep the style up. This had been my first haircut in probably 9 months so my hair was extremely long leaving me with a bunch of options for the first time in along time, as I hate the awkward grow out stage but was able to push through it not seeing many people during the pandemic. The picture I showed had medium length up top, and then a more trimmed side but in no way a fade. I told the barber that I wanted it to be just above the length that my hair begins to stick up because that happens when its cut too short, as well as my cowlick on the crown of my head becoming an issue. Upon 30 seconds of my haircut beginning, I knew he had messed up with whatever guard he used to shave down the bulk of my hair. Within those 30 seconds, I already knew the photo I showed the barber would be impossible to achieve as he cut down way too much. After asking him where this was going, he decides to pull up a picture on his own phone and show me what he's going for. I don't know if he did this to try to make it seem like he knew what he was doing rather than admit he messed up, but it was apparent the photo I showed him had been tossed out the window as he was now showing the same basic haircut that every barber has done for the past 5 years, fade on the sides with length on top. He was able to do the fade well but it was exactly what I made clear I didn't want. The most frustrating part of this is that I chose a highly rated and expensive barber shop so that those months of growing out my hair weren't wasted, but now I'm back to square one.

Pictures added of what I showed vs...
