I very bluntly told Tim that I am NOT a review kinda person. It sucks cause there are so many people that truly deserve the review and I recognize how much it helps but I just don’t take the time to do it (it’s a sickness). However, I will take the time to write one this time to whoever might be on the fence about getting a haircut here. It’s not just the philosophy around 12Pell and the great work that those folks do there. This is more so for Tim, I’m sure everyone is great but I can’t stop talking about the experience with my haircut. I grow my hair out to donate to Wigs for Kids and because of that I don’t really care about my appearance, but one of my best friends told me about 12Pell when I told him I’m close to donating a second time. I had never gotten a “real” haircut and definitely not one where they took into consideration my face shape, my lifestyle, my goals (in this case growing it out again for a third donation), etc.
All crucial things that most don’t think about but Tim took the time and energy to get really deep into these subjects. I was surprised by his level of breadth and depth on various options and presenting me with the pros and cons of each. I came in with this mentality of “do whatever you think is best” and I was met with a collaborative effort that took into consideration many things beyond the surface level aesthetic of the cut. This was truly apparent when I told him no other hair stylist, barber, etc has known what to do with a little swirl/cow lick situation I got going on on the back of my head and he was able to find a good, intuitive, yet simple solution to this problem that no one has cared to tackle before.
As a designer I appreciated my experience a lot more than I think the general population would. Tim isn’t just cutting hair, he is designing. This is art and people should definitely respect the craft and see it as more than just a haircut. To design and create art is to look beyond the surface level problem in front of you. It’s considering various aspects such as the ones outlined above (hair texture, lifestyle, time willing to spend on getting ready, previous haircuts and what I like and didn’t like about them, etc)
Tim is hands down my guy and will be going back to him when I’m ready to donate again. Truly a fantastic job and my girlfriend is obsessed with the cut and so am I. Can’t deny I am starting to actually care about my looks now thanks to Tim and for the time he took to show me and explain to me exactly how to style it and take care of my hair.
1000/10 would recommend. Treat your barbers with respect and appreciation for their craft and I promise you will not be disappointed (when it comes to Tim and I’m sure the other...

Read moreFirst time here, I booked with Kevin. Really disappointed in this place considering their reputation as well as price ($45 plus a 10$ tip.) I came in here with a picture to show the barber, making it well known that I wanted something low maintenance and that I've gotten a ton of fades in the past and really liked them, but wasn't looking to get one due to the constant need for another haircut to keep the style up. This had been my first haircut in probably 9 months so my hair was extremely long leaving me with a bunch of options for the first time in along time, as I hate the awkward grow out stage but was able to push through it not seeing many people during the pandemic. The picture I showed had medium length up top, and then a more trimmed side but in no way a fade. I told the barber that I wanted it to be just above the length that my hair begins to stick up because that happens when its cut too short, as well as my cowlick on the crown of my head becoming an issue. Upon 30 seconds of my haircut beginning, I knew he had messed up with whatever guard he used to shave down the bulk of my hair. Within those 30 seconds, I already knew the photo I showed the barber would be impossible to achieve as he cut down way too much. After asking him where this was going, he decides to pull up a picture on his own phone and show me what he's going for. I don't know if he did this to try to make it seem like he knew what he was doing rather than admit he messed up, but it was apparent the photo I showed him had been tossed out the window as he was now showing the same basic haircut that every barber has done for the past 5 years, fade on the sides with length on top. He was able to do the fade well but it was exactly what I made clear I didn't want. The most frustrating part of this is that I chose a highly rated and expensive barber shop so that those months of growing out my hair weren't wasted, but now I'm back to square one.
Pictures added of what I showed vs...
