5 stars for the bartender for being as helpful as she could be during this ordeal. 0 stars for management and security. It’s of note that none of us were intoxicated. We were a very chill party of around 10 or more people and spent a good amount of money at this establishment. 3 of us went to the bathroom. I got back from the bathroom before the other 2 at which point Person #4 told me person #5 was outside getting some air. It was hot in there so I didn’t think anything of it. Once our group was back from the bathroom we go outside together at which point we find person #5 crouched outside bleeding from her mouth and telling us she passed out, hit her head, and overall was not feeling well. She proceeds to show me her tooth in her hand. I have some first aid knowledge and know if you ever knock a tooth out to put it in some eggs whites. I go back inside and approach a bartender telling her what happened. I say I have an odd request but would she be able give me some eggs whites and a glass of ice water. She even attempted to separate the yolks from whites for me, like I said she was great. I asked for plastic cups but she said she didn’t have any and that glasses aren’t allowed outside but to just let the manager know. I start walking toward the exit at which point I get told by the host and manager I can’t take glasses outside. I tell the manager what’s going on and that I plan on returning the glasses this is just an emergency. (I understand policies are in place for a reason but there’s certain scenarios when policy needs to be put aside, this situation being one of them.) He starts going back and forth with me, again my friend is actively bleeding and in distress outside. Someone finally brings out a paper to go container and a kids meal cup. I give the egg whites and water to my friend then mention to our friend group that management gave me a hard time over the glassware, which security overheard. As my friend still doesn’t feel well I start to consider she may have passed out because her blood pressure or blood sugar was too low. I immediately think to get a salt and sugar packet. I attempt to walk back into the bar at which point security denies me entrance on the basis that “you said you got bad service here” and that he just wasn’t going to let me back in. His response to the poor service was MORE poor service. I again tell him what’s going on, how we were patrons and still even have the wrist bands on. Since he doesn’t budge I tell him okay if you won’t let me in can you get me a sugar and salt which he then refuses. I then have to try to circumvent the situation by asking other people in our group to try and get it. This was again unsuccessful and we end up just driving her to the hospital. Management and security were rude and unhelpful during a medical emergency involving a patron. They don’t deserve...
Read moreNot Afro-Latino/Black friendly. I would love to rate this place higher because I do believe it’s a nice cute space to interact with people of many cultures. I can’t speak for the food so I will speak on the nightlife they attempt to curate.
It is very clear that Yuca cares more about the service they provide to “their” people. Once the servers and bodyguards found out I spoke Spanish, the treatment changed. Prior to that, I was told I needed to remove myself from the premises for wearing a headband (my hair was out), to which the bodyguard called a Durag and kept harassing me to take it off. The point he attempted to make was that there was a dress code to be followed. I understand that dress codes are a thing, to which I followed but I had to point out that there was a woman that night wearing dirty sweatpants (which are against their dress code). As much as I’d hate to believe that this was targeting, it sure felt that way. I politely told the bodyguard that I’ve paid an entry fee and my partner and I already bought drinks. If dress code was an issue, it should’ve been enforced at the door.
Second, I went with a group of my girls and my partner. They were charged a small fee for entry while I was charged double. I’m not exactly sure the reason. My friends were charged $10 and I was charged $25. I wasn’t made aware of the difference until after.
Third, we all know getting drinks at the bar can be hectic so I didn’t mind a small wait for the waiter to notice I was there or grab his attention. Every time I attempted to order, he would instead grab orders from other people who were pushing up behind me and were speaking to him in Spanish. It wasn’t until I spoke Spanish myself that the server became pleased with me and then I never waited for a drink after that.
I understand that in our culture we take care of our own first. As an Afro-Latina, I was disappointed in Yuca for treating me and many others the way they do. I was clearly looked over and targeted because of the color of my skin and I will not support Yuca any longer. I’m sure they will still thrive without my money. On the plus side, the...
Read moreAmazing experience. I loved the place and I always hear good things about it so I had to check it out myself. I went their for dinner and wow, I had the salmon with chipotle sauce and mashed potatoes and a margarita. The margarita was strongish and the salmon was fantastic. I could tell it was fresh from the same week. I went on a Friday night and once I sat down my waitress had came to me quickly to get my order and that was great because I was able to get their happy hour price for drinks. 9 dollars for a bunch of them. Food came out in about 12 min. But what I did not realize from her taking my order so quick, was that once I ordered my food and she brought it to me. She had told me to eat it quickly because she had to MOVE MY TABLE, because they where going to have a club their. Mind you this is 15 MIN AFTER I HAD JUST SAT DOWN AND RECEIVED MY FOOD. I was shocked that I could not enjoy my food and appreciate the work their chef had put into it. That definitely affected her tip, I was expecting to stay their 45-60 min and all I could do was 25 minutes to quickly eat. I DID NOT ENOJY THAT AT ALL. I was about to leave but i made some friends that wanted to stay for the club…. AND WOW. WHAT A PLACE TO BE. If I could change anything it would be to NOT SIT PEOPLE WITHIN 30 MINUTES OF CLOSING BECAUSE I WAS NOT ABLE TO EAT IN PEACE. But let me tell you, the people that come to this club are young hip and ready for adventure and Yuca really puts on a show. They open the entire restaurant for as many people as possible. And I was wondering why so much space. But once 11:00pm hit the clock. The place was flooded with college girls and wow. What a night I had, the ratio of girls to guys is crazy, and if you like Latina’s or Latinos, THIS IS THE PLACE TO BE. For what it might cost you. I spent 100 dollars at yuca the entire night. Including my 27$ salmon and my 9$ margarita then a couple of beers and shots at their club. I would expect that each person would pay 50-100 if they only go to the club. I would come back again, if only they could fix that problem with the tables moving so quickly after...
