My recent experience with Luster was quite frustrating. I had a similar issue with Luster a few years ago but I brushed it off. This time, I can't. I generally scan my own negatives with a flatbed because, well, it's cheaper (not exactly a drum scan, but it gets the job done). When you have three rolls of film it's much easier to pay someone else to do the scans; peace of mind over cost. Except this time I didn't get the peace of mind. I brought some old negatives to Luster. The price of the scan seemed a bit high to me but again, peace of mind over cost. Then I got back the product and there was no peace of mind. Why anyone would think it's okay to scan an image at 72 DPI in 2018 is a thought process I can't follow. Many of the scans are noisy (not to be confused with film grain; there's a difference between natural grain and digital noise) and have a loss of detail due to the low resolution. It also didn't help that when I called to express my frustration the associate hung up on me. After calling back and speaking with a different associate they urged me to come in to see it on their monitor, but honestly I've had enough of my time (and...
Read moreThis place is a ripoff I went there to have 3 rolls of 35mm black and white developed no prints no scanning just film processing paid up front almost $30 Ok I figured it is black and white so fine I go to pick up my negatives they are rolled up in a long clear sleeve I asked counter person could they cut and sleeve them I was told that's an additional $2 per roll I had to ask the question again to confirm and to my amazement that was indeed the price so essentially I would be paying $36 dollars for 3 rolls of film needless to say I walked out with my negatives uncut I will never return here I worked for Kodak for 15yrs It's not a big deal to cut and sleeve negatives definitely not worth $2 a roll they have however inspired me to purchase my own processing items thou so I'll thank them for the inspiration NOT!!!!

Read moreI'm disappointed that I'm posting this review because I went consistently to Luster for a year and encouraged my photographer friends to go there as well. But I recently got some film developed there, and the film scans looked really bad. Luster offered to rescan them, but the rescans weren't much better.
I went to get some of my money back and the manager wasn't very understanding. He tried to convince me that I just wanted the scans to be more contrasty, while I tried to show him that the coloring was off, the pictures were hazy, the contrast was barely there, and the cuts were inconsistent. The scans looked like they were from a disposable camera and seemed rushed. Luster did eventually give me some of my money back for the scans, for which I’m grateful, but it was NOT a pleasant experience going back and forth with them. I hoped it could be a more peaceful and mutually understanding experience than it turned out being.
The scans are not acceptable for a pro film lab. I took the film to a different lab and this is...
