I was pleasantly surprised to find that this is owned by the same people who operate the Flushing location! I stopped in for a late lunch around 3:30pm, and there were two other parties dining. The shop is small, but there will probably be no wait if you go at an odd time. By 4pm, I was the only person in the restaurant.
I got the soondubu lunch special with beef ($17.95). I will say that is on the pricier side for a lunch special that doesn't come with anything extra, but it is not unreasonable for the area. I typically like Ziggle's banchan offerings, but the ones I had this particular day didn't hit. I did like the sliced cucumber, but the kimchi had a strong acid taste, and the broccoli and potato salad severely lacked flavor. However, the soondubu was excellent! The beef was flavored well, as if it was marinated before being used in the dish. I ordered the soondubu mild, and there was great flavor without the heat!
Service was wonderful! I really appreciate places that offer a banchan refill instead of making you ask if you are interested. I didn't take full advantage of this, but if there was a fishcake or beansprout banchan, I would have probably gotten a second round. The manager here is very hospitable, which is the same experience I had in Flushing. My water was refilled and there were a few checkbacks throughout my meal. I would highly recommend Ziggle for Korean food, especially if you are in the area to avoid the...
Read moreMy husband and I came here for lunch and had an incredible time. We live down the street and have been waiting for Ziggle to open, needless to say we were not disappointed! We were greeted when we walked in and found the atmosphere to be clean and quiet. There was soft jazz playing and plenty of seating options for large groups, intimate dates, or the bar. We were seated and given water. While looking over the menu, the manager came by to greet us and offer some recommendations which we gladly took! We shared tteokbokki (rice cakes) in a spicy sauce and the Ziggle box with spicy pork bulgogi. The banchan, which consisted of marinated broccoli and tofu, potato salad, and kimchi, were delicious! The manager and our waitress checked in while we were dining and offered refills on the banchan, which we gladly accepted. The tteokbokki were delicious, perfectly cooked and the sauce was sweet and spicy. The Ziggle box gave us a chance to sample a bunch of different things because it came with the protein and rice, egg omelette, egg soup, salad, veggie japchae, crispy fried shrimp, potato salad, and fried veggie pancake. Everything was incredible, the highlights were definitely the pork bulgolgi, japchae, and egg soup. The appetizer and box were an ideal amount of food for two people. We can't wait to come back and try more of the menu! Definitely check them out if you're ever in Murray Hill! Reasonably priced, phenomenal food, super nice...
Read moreI wanted to update my review of Ziggle, as my recent experience there was disappointing. I had been to this restaurant before and enjoyed both the food and the service. The staff was attentive, often checking in and offering refills on side dishes, which made for a welcoming experience.
Unfortunately, my last visit was quite different. When I walked in, the gentleman by the bar greeted me with a rather brusque "Can I help you?"—more an assertion than a friendly welcome. I was on my lunch break, wearing my construction vest and carrying my hard hat, so it felt a bit like he was surprised to see me there.
After being seated, the waitress brought my water and took my order, but never checked back to see if I needed anything else or offered a refill. My water glass sat empty for most of the meal, and by the time I was nearly finished, it was clear I wasn’t going to be offered any additional service. To add to this, they brought the check so quickly that it felt as though they wanted me out of there.
Another disappointment was the absence of one of my favorite appetizers—the raw/roasted broccoli that they used to bring as a complimentary starter. The food itself was still decent, but the lack of hospitality has soured my experience. Sadly, I won’t be returning to Ziggle. It’s a real shame, as I was looking forward to enjoying...
