St. Vartan Park is a nice place in the core city, offering a perfect escape for families with kids. This expansive park spans an entire block between First and Second Avenue, and east 35th and 36th Street. The park is divided into two halves, with a lush green play area for kids on the east side and a spacious playground for baseball and more on the west side.
One of the highlights of St. Vartan Park is the charming water fountain in the center, a favorite cooling spot for little ones on hot days. The park boasts a variety of swings, including the rare big red tire swings that are a hit with children.
With stunning views of the iconic Empire State Building and surrounding condominiums, the park offers a picturesque backdrop for playtime. Additionally, its proximity to the ferry port and the East River sidewalk makes it a convenient and accessible location for families.
St. Vartan Park features clean restrooms and a separate athletic field with high-quality artificial green grass. It provides ample opportunities for kids of all ages to engage in a range of activities, making it a fantastic destination for family outings.
Parents can relax and unwind while their children play, making it a great spot for both kids' play and adult relaxation. I highly recommend St. Vartan Park as a nice place for families looking for a fun and enjoyable time nearby...
Read moreI am really nitpicking by not giving this park five stars. I go here often. I throw a football or a frisbee with a friend or one of my parents here every now and then. The turf is not really grass and used to be cement. I have mixed feelings about this, as I grew up with it being cement and I would scooter on it. I know people who miss it because they cannot really rollerblade and/or rollerskate there anymore on the open field. The turf is still really nice though! The playground is nice and has a rather large jungle-gym, which I can attest to from previous experiences when I played on it when I was younger. There are also sprinklers that turn on in the summer and can cool you off. There are also swings, tire swings and this other contraption that you sit and spin around in. The basketball courts are pretty good, but get crowded often. Also, the floor on the court is the slightest uneven, but no biggie. You can also practice your tennis skills on the adjacent court area where there are walls to hit the tennis ball at. The bathrooms are not ideal, but they get the job done. They usually get locked around sundown. This park is not perfect or essentially perfect, but I love it a lot and I think 4/5 is a good representation of this park. Get out and enjoy! P.S: They have a composting station by the playground area that is open...
Read moreThis park is decided into several different space for the community to enjoy. The largest space is an open field which is used for kids soccer, baseball, field sports and other activities. Your not supposed to bring your dog on this Astro turf lawn…so please don’t.
There is also a small child’s playground which is wonderful and popular.
On the west end of the park on the other side of the tunnel entrance there is a series of handball and (now) pickle ball courts. There is also a basketball court.
The secret park which has limited hours is all the way to the east on first Avenue. This grass lawn and flowerbeds...
