We recently visited Sophra Grill in Murray Hill and really enjoyed the experience overall. This place feels like a true neighborhood gem, warm, family-run, and focused on authentic Turkish and Mediterranean flavors rather than fancy presentation or trendy gimmicks.
The atmosphere is cozy and casual, with only a handful of tables and a welcoming vibe that instantly makes you feel at home. The staff were friendly, helpful, and patient in explaining the menu. It’s the kind of place where you can sit back, relax, and enjoy a comforting meal without feeling rushed.
We decided to share a few dishes, the mixed grill platter (which included lamb, chicken, and beef kebabs), a red lentil soup, and a few vegetarian sides. They also brought out complimentary Turkish bread, which was a nice touch, though it wasn’t particularly fresh that day. Everything else arrived hot and nicely presented. The chicken adana kebab stood out, flavorful, juicy, and perfectly seasoned, while the chicken kebab was tender and well-grilled. The red lentil soup was smooth, hearty, and well-balanced in flavor.
For dessert, we tried the baklava, which was excellent, light, flaky, and not overly sweet, just the way it should be. Portions here are generous, and prices are quite reasonable for the quality and portion size, making it a great value overall. If there’s one small note, it’s that the restaurant can feel a bit tight during peak hours since it’s a compact space. But honestly, that adds to its charm, it feels personal, genuine, and homey, which is hard to find these days.
Overall, Sophra Grill is an excellent spot for authentic Turkish cuisine served with care and consistency. Whether you’re craving kebabs, grilled meats, or vegetarian dishes, you’ll find something delicious here. Definitely worth visiting, and I’d happily come back again for the mixed grill platter...
Read moreThis family run restaurant which I have visited many times with family and friends because I like to support small family run businesses, turned out to be a big disappointment today! I had taken my brother there for lunch. We order appetizers, entrees and dessert and with tax and tip the bill was $99.00. I ordered the Lamachun which is flatbread topped with minced meat and spices and baked after which toppings of fresh parsley, sliced tomatoes, chopped onions are added, some freshly squeezed lemon, and then it is folded into a roll and eaten . I have eaten this many times not only in several Turkish resturants in New York City but in Istanbul and other cities of Turkkiye as well. Only today the disappointment was that the lamchun came out of the kitchen like a crisp pizza, slightly burned in places and without the usual toppings. I didnt want to make a big deal of it in front of my brother so didn't say anything at that time. The second big disappointyment was when I later called the restaurant to tell them that I know what real Lamachun is and how it is served and to serve it the proper way the next time. The owner's son spoke to me very rudely and was shouting on the telephone instead of at least saying there must have been some mistake in the kitchen and trying to apologize for the mistake. When I said with this kind of attitude I don't think I will go there again, he said he didn't care because he is the owner. So indeed I will never be visiting Sophra Grill again and will tell my family and all my friends to avoid...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Sophra Grill, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience! This spot offers some of the best Turkish cuisine in NYC, with fresh, flavorful dishes and exceptional service.
The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, with a relaxed yet authentic vibe that made us feel right at home. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, ensuring we had everything we needed throughout our meal.
For the main course, we ordered the cheese pide, which was phenomenal—crispy yet soft, with the perfect amount of melted cheese and buttery goodness. But the real star of the show was the mix grill platter—an absolute must-try! It came with a variety of perfectly grilled meats, including juicy lamb chops, flavorful kebabs, and tender chicken. Every bite was packed with smoky, well-seasoned goodness, and the portion size was generous enough to satisfy even the hungriest of diners.
To finish, they actually gave us tea on the house. Their aromatic Turkish coffee was essential part of any post meal.
Overall, Sophra Grill exceeded all expectations. The food was outstanding, the service was warm and welcoming, and the entire dining experience was truly enjoyable. Whether you're a fan of Turkish cuisine or looking to try something new, this place is a must visit. Can’t wait...
