My experience at this establishment was a bit of a let down, and could have been better. They seem to have decent food, with a few flaws that hindered the experience. The meal started off with two negatives; one being they did not have any diet soda, the second being no free refills. I am getting sick and tired of this; the entire experience becomes more negative if the beverage I drink, which also happens to be the most common sodas in the world, is not available. They also had a bar section, I never seen a place have a bar section, and lack every single kind of diet soda it is unacceptable. One could say if the food is good, who cares? Well I care. If I can’t wash the food down with a drink that quenches my thirst, I am not enjoying my meal as much. The food could have been amazing and I still would have been upset. Also when I ordered, I asked for diet soda and the man brought me a regular. That is how I found out so great communication, keep it up (total sarcasm)! The individual who brought me my drink was not our assigned server, so I felt a bit bad ordering from him but I don’t feel that bad especially after the nonsense they pulled. Had I known this place did not have diet soda, absolutely NO WAY I would have come; that is a total dealbreaker. I ordered the mofongo with chicken which was pretty good, but would have been a lot better if I had some diet soda to go with it. Because I did not, it was alright but not as good as it could have been. Instead I had Seltzer which was just lame and flavorless. Need to have sugar free beverage options with some flavors because this almost ruined my meal. The Mofongo was pretty good, but there were more cons along with that. I was interrupted multiple times while eating asking if I was done. I had to guard my plate because they kept trying to take it when I articulated in English “I am not done with my food” please let me eat. When we got the check, it seemed like they were trying to sneak charges past us. One that they did not sneak in was charging 5 bucks for my measly can of seltzer which is a ripoff, but the receipt was mostly in spanish. The charge for my drink was the only thing I was able to understand because it said Coca Cola which I did not have. They couldn’t even get that part right. They added their own additional service gratuity which was more than 10 bucks. By putting it in Spanish, they thought I would not notice these nonsensical charges. I have to say this is a first for me and a new strategy to gouge. Never in my entire career consuming food in this country have I ever received a receipt that is in any other language than English. I respect all cultures, but here in America I want to see my receipt in English. Right away I had questions and had to take out my phone to translate what was said on it. VERY annoying and also makes the experience worse so keep digging I guess. Overall, maybe this place has options for other people, but the way my meal went it seemed like they never want me to come back; request accepted. We were also the only people in the restaurant at the time, so I am not sure why they kept rushing me and trying to take my plate away while I was clearly not done. Let me eat and let me enjoy my company.... If I can’t enjoy a basic diet soda or a receipt in English, at least let me talk to my companion and finish the food in peace. A lot to be fixed here, but the one good thing I had to say was the plantains in the Mofongo were quite good. They have a good dish which is why they get 2 stars, but when deception and lack of other options mixed with some annoying service enters the picture, no thank you. Best of luck to anyone who goes here and don’t accept any bill in other languages. Can’t even believe I have...
Read moreThis place could be the not-so hidden jewel of inwood. They’re food is great, maybe the portions could be bigger, but for the price I can’t complain. They’re happy hour is AMAZING, I couldn’t believe the quality of food-drinks compared to the price on the check. Now, the service is what makes it really special. I don’t love to sit at the bar (I’m more or a table person) but Greymi, the bartender, made my stay be worth a zillio times the check. She’s fun, funny, hospitable, friendly, but not overwhelming, and super professional. I don’t want to sit anywhere but at the bar now! Besides, her margaritas could be the best I’ve tried (and I’ve tried many; I know, a...
