I’ve been looking for a Bereket replacement for two decades now. Still looking, but this spot is decent… for some items.
This is the best option for middle eastern style shawarma/ kofta kebob sandwiches & falafel in this hood. The average to poor halal trucks don’t count & that other spot a few doors down is pretty much a food truck version I’m a brick and mortar location.
Some sandwiches are decent. The chicken is always way too dry and flavorless; can you say under seasoned ? Stick with beef and lamb, and alway get it spicy (3.5/5 level of heat).
The star of this spot is the falafel. It’s superior on multiple levels. 4/5. The tahini it comes with is water downed and lacks flavor, ask for garlic sauce, aka toum. You’re welcome.
A tad $$$ for what you get but it’s all we got so there’s that.
1/6/25:
Lamb over rice is solid. 4/5. Chunks of lamb. Flavor full rice. Quantity is small. Not spicy.
2-8-25: skip their burger. It’s a frozen patty. Dry and under seasoned
5/25/25: skip the spinach pie. No matter the protein, they always under season and overcook- Kofta kebab, any beef, it’s borderline almost dry….their wings are decent though, could use more salt but not bad. Eating here is a crap shoot but where else...
Read moreThis is a wonderful addition to the neighborhood. When I stopped in to say hello when they first opened a couple weeks ago, they offered me a sample falafel. Delicious. They were also very mindful when I discussed allergies with them, and were able to let me know the ingredients in the falafel and hummus, and types of oil used to cook or bake things. My partner and I stopped in for a quick snack lunch today and decided to stay and dine outside; since opening they have added two indoor tables and two nice outdoor tables with wicker chairs and they’ve made a faux grass area, it is much more inviting than your usual takeout place. When you tell them, you are dining in, they actually present things a nice platter, so there is less waste than with takeout containers. The hummus drizzled with tahini and the grape leaves and falafel were delicious. They also have fun beverages from abroad as well as house...
Read moreI was so sad when their long-time predecessor closed, but I despair no more. The lovely new owner has hired some beloved former staff members. To say that the falafel is tastefully delicious might sound a bit corny, but take me at my word when I say that this describes the culinary experience to a “ t”. Still, these words do not adequately depict the joy and satisfaction I derive from going here. It’s not only the fabulous food but it’s also the atmosphere, ambiance, and experience. I go at least weekly if not more, and so reasonably priced with all the fixin’s. I...
