I have been a loyal customer of Ollie's Noodle Shop at its incarnations since 1989. When they opened this location I rejoiced and ordered from them frequently as they were now at a location near my home. Today they may have lost a customer of 32 years. I ordered online and when I came down to get my order I was surprised to see the delivery man still there yelling at me that I couldn't take my food. I really couldn't understand him, and while I am part Asian I do not speak any form of Chinese. He called the restaurant and they said I didn't tip. I had chosen a 15% tip on my order so I didn't understand what was happening. The delivery guy demanded that I shout my credit card number into the phone. I was not going to do that in a lobby full of people. Instead of letting me call back the restaurant to add a tip on the phone with my credit card in the privacy of my apartment he held my food hostage until I gave him a cash tip. I will say, tips are supposed to be arbitrary and I am a good tipper, but the way I was treated today was obnoxious and rude. Ollie's has me in their database. They know I am a good customer. Well, I repeat, they may have lost me today, forever.

UPDATE 10/6/2021 - The manager of Ollie's contacted me, apologized, spoke to his employees and then refunded my entire order. I really appreciated his efforts. Due to his professionalism I have upgraded my review from 1 to 2 stars. I will, however, sit our this particular Ollie's until I can recover from the unforeseen trauma of what happened to me...

I'm struggling to provide a proper evaluation of my experience. I believe there was a misunderstanding with the instructions I added to my order via the app.

I ordered my food through the app which was easy and convenient. The app worked great without any glitches. I ordered the three meat lunch special with brown rice ($11.95). The three meats I chose were roast pork, pork ribs and crispy chicken. I chose the brown rice over white rice. I also chose the Hot and sour soup over the egg drop soup. I wish fried rice and wonton soup were options but they were not.

I added a little note asking that no additional salt be added to the meal. I think that's where the problem started. The liquid the meat floated in was very very salty. It was almost inedible. A bed of spinach rested underneath the meat in the liquid. That also soaked up the salty flavor.

The meat was extremely fresh and tender. I just couldn't tasted them over the salt. I ran the meat and spinach under cold water. That helped a lot. I could taste the true flavor of the meat.

I may consider trying this location again. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume the saltiness was just a misunderstanding. I will remember to leave out any...

I was ravishing but stuck on zoom and needed some comfort food to get me through another 10 hr day working from home and wanted just tofu and veggies

I saw Ollie's Noodle Shop was on chownow (no ridiculous UberEats service and delivery fees and had a lot of lunch specials so I decided to give them a go.

I ordered the sesame tofu and chicken with broccoli- but asked for tofu instead of chicken if possible- and BOY did they deliver, this is my new lunch spot!

It was so so so delicious! Both lunch specials were a generous portion and came with a pint of rice and soup (I chose egg drop)

The sesame tofu was the star of the show for me- it was flavorful and crispy but not too sweet or too fried and it was mixed with tasty FRESH veggies- zucchini, carrots, snap peas and broccoli - definitely nothing frozen here!

My partner really liked his tofu w broccoli

I thought the egg drop soup w corn was tasty and had the right amount of corn as as to not impact the texture of the soup.

The order was slowwww but the owner emailed and apologized for the delay and explained their internet went down but sent a few drinks to apologize for the delay!

All in all, I would definitely order from here again especially the...

I like the roast meats here. No Puffy. That said: never order them past 7pm. Any of them. Unless, you like it dry. Cheaper than Moon Key, which I guess is the comp, when you compare their menus. Ribs: 4/5, if only they were smoked Duck: 3/5 (inconsistent) Roast pork: 3/5 (drier later into evening) Soy sauce chicken: 3/5 (sometimes too dry) Beef w/spicy green peppers: 5/5 (the go to) Spinach: 5/5 Chinese broccoli: 4/5 Hong Kong Fried Shrimp: 3.5/5 Scallops in black bean sauce: 3.5/5 Singapore curry noodles: 3.75/5 Egg roll: 3.75/5 Baby Bok Choy with jalapeño: 4/5 The broth here is mid. Skip. Ollie’s is frustrating. It can’t be compared to the standard uptown American Chinese neighborhood spots, just on their options alone it’s clear they want to serve us American and real Chinese food. The American Chinese staples are hit or miss, but the non traditional American options are consistently good, albeit I don’t know how authentic, because I’m not Chinese. Whatever- my tongue knows what it likes. Service: standard NYC, non- Chinatown, style (direct, efficient, indifferent)
