TLDR: If you've never had Chino Latino - you're depriving yourself of some crazy good stuff. Large portions, even larger flavors. Broiled pork chop, lomo saltado, squid ink fried rice, seco de res. You're welcome. I've been eating at the Amsterdam location for years but recently I've been coming to this one. It's a family run spot with a full Chino Latino menu. Think a collision of Chinese and Peruvian/Spanish. They've got some straight up Spanish things, totally Chinese and in between. For starters, definitely try the papa arequipena. It's a Peruvian potato either cold or fried with this red pepper sauce and hard boiled eggs and olives. It's a very unique flavor. If you're there on the weekends, grab the shrimp stew. It's an ultra tasty shrimp soup with rice, corn, a bit of spice. The broiled pork chops are probably my favorite pork chops anywhere. They're brined incredibly well are dotted with chopped garlic that caramelizes under the flame. It's so insanely juicy. Squid ink fried rice is a must. It's a squid ink coated fried rice with ham, shrimp, pease and a unique ginger flavor. The lomo saltado you definitely need to get. Sliced steak in a stir-fried sauce with onions, tomato and french fries on top of rice. The other items I'd recommend are the seco de res, a cilantro-centric tender beef stew. The tallarin verde is a Peruvianish pesto pasta, it's great with the garlic shrimp. No matter how much good stuff I've eaten, Flor de Mayo is in my list of restaurants I love going to and bringing visitors to. It's something that's tough to find but it's a testament to the melting pot that NYC is.

I never write reviews unless I can get a discount, but this place genuinely scammed me and my date, and my goal of writing this is to make sure they lose the money they scammed from us from losing future customers. We ordered the avocado salad, pointing at the avocado under the salad section and it was listed as $7.00 but when we got the bill, it was $14.50. The waiter said that because when he asked us if we wanted tomato and onion with that was double the price BUT where on the menu does it even say that. Even pointing to the most expensive salad with much more additional toppings that was $11.00 so at that point we knew they were just making stuff up to scam us. They said that for $7 that was just for sliced up avocado which in what right mind would you call that a salad. We also ordered the half rotisserie with french fries, and rice on the side, and we were clear to say french fries with the rotisserie chicken as the rice side was cheaper than the french fries. However, they switched it to rice with the rotisserie chicken and french fries on side so they can get an extra $2.50 from us. So be very careful at this restaurant because they will make up prices and switch a combo to make a couple extra bucks from you. It's the principle and I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone. Just buy rotisserie chicken from Costco at least you know it's $5 there.

Also the wait staff was very slow filling up the water, many times we would finish our waters because the food was extremely salty and we would have empty water glasses. So even if you don't mind paying a little extra compared to what you anticipated based on the menu, you're going to pay later in life with hypertension (this is a joke but the food was very salty and high salt diets can cause hypertension), but at least they're slow with the water so you will not become fluid overloaded (also a joke) at...

I really really wanted to love this place, the space is charming, while the service was nice and attentive. Unfortunately, I thought the dishes I've tried were mostly mediocre. We had the bruschetta and beef carpaccio as starters, and both dishes were perfectly serviceable, but weren't great. I wish the mushroom was seasoned more for the bruschetta, and I actually liked the accompanied salad more than the carpaccio.

For the main, I ordered the pasta of the day, I can't remember the exact name, but it had truffle oil and ham. Holy batman, the dish was really really salty. I am terrible at sending back food, which I recognize as being completely unfair to the owner as they deserve a chance rectify the mistake made by the kitchen. I am working on being more vocal when I am unsatisfied with the dish. My guy ordered pasta with clams, and he graciously agreed with switch with me. I really liked his pasta, it was well cooked and came with ample amount of clams.

For desert, we tried the special of the day, which was a cake covered in chocolate, as well as the profiteroles. I thought the former was not very good as the cake was too dense, but the profiteroles were good and the coffee was great.

It's always tough to write this type of reviews as it is easier to have strong feelings about the food, good or bad. I thought the dishes we tried were mostly meh, aside from the pasta dish that I thought was overly salty. Two of my other friends were extremely happy with the dishes they ordered, i.e. tuna and clam pasta, while my guy was not happy with my cast-off pasta dish. I would like to come back again and try the other dishes, perhaps the kitchen was just...

Took over an hour to receive our food despite ordering as soon as we sat down. Larger parties who arrived/ordered after us received their food before we were even given an updated which we had to ask for from an employee who was not our waiter. Our waiter was so busy sucking up to the party of 6 seated next to us that he forgot we existed and no other employee came to ask if we needed anything when we still had not received our food and later arrivals had. We were ignored, dismissed and and rudely brushed off. We ordered two plates of food and another table next to us order the same thing 15 minutes later and got there food much earlier. The only time staff acknowledged us is when they were desperate to serve us a check so that they could free up the table. Worst customer service I've ever had at a restaurant especially one that I considered a favorite. I would go as far to say that myself and ny friend were being discriminated against. Staff went out of their way to ignore us and check up on other tables right next to us consistently. It went on for over an hour before we had to ask about where our food was and even then we're given a vague and rude response. The funny thing is, the party of 6 seated next to us literally snapped their fingers and got their food right away even though they arrived 15-20 minutes after we were seated and had 4 more people. I will never come here again. Myself nor my friend received any apologies whatsoever. The only time we weren't invisible is when the time to give a tip came up. First time I absolutely refused to leave a tip. I've gotten better service at an Applebee's...
