Mi Pequeno Mexico Restaurant — Restaurant in Newark

This is the worst experience I have ever had. A friend and I wanted to order take out. After reading all the glowing reviews, we called this place. The person answering the phone had no idea about what's on the menu. Could not verify any prices. The first time, she hung up the phone. We called about 7 more times (don't know why), and no one picked up the phone! On the eighth try, the same woman answered. I asked why she hung up. She said they were "busy." I then started to place the order, when I was given COMPLETELY different price for the order than what the website menu said. When I asked for clarification, the woman said "I am sorry, but the manager has told me to hang up on you." I have NEVER heard something like this ever before from any business! This was going to be our first time trying the place. But how can we even try if they don't even want to take an order?? It seems like this place doesn't want you to ask ANY question about their prices. You just have to accept that the website menu prices are different than the prices being told over the phone. I had a horrible experience at this restaurant and would not recommend it to anyone. It started when I placed an order for my son, who wanted a steak quesadilla. When the food finally arrived, my son’s order wasn’t included. The server hadn’t even written it down! My sister's food was also terrible—the meat was old and stale , and the rice was completely flavorless.

When we reminded the server about my son’s quesadilla, they eventually brought it out, but it wasn’t even close to what we ordered. Instead of a steak quesadilla, it was a plain cheese quesadilla with no meat at all. I have no idea what went wrong or whether the server misunderstood us, but it was incredibly frustrating.

To make matters worse, when we received the bill, they tried to charge me for an extra for a drink. It felt like they were just adding on charges hoping we wouldn’t notice. Lastly, when we got home, my son ended up feeling sick and had a stomach ache. This just added to an already awful experience.

Overall, the food was bad, the service was disorganized, and they even tried to overcharge us. I would strongly recommend staying away from this place—it’s not worth your...

I can't believe how incompetent they are. Very nice staff but completely unaware of the menu items and how to answer questions. There is no indication on the menu that the tamales have meat ... I asked the waitress what the difference between the green and red tamales were and she said "just the sauce". I even ordered another dish specifying that I was a vegetarian and am confirming it didn't have meat in it.

Anyway, the red tamale came, I bit in, and it had meat. I asked the manager if the other tamale doesn't have meat as I don't eat meat. She said yes and ordered me another tamale. I didn't have the appetite to eat anything else, but didn't want to cancel my order so I took my food home. I open the green tamale at home only to find some weird meat substance inside of this one as well :( I will NEVER go to this place again and definitely don't recommend it to anyone who has dietary restrictions or likes to know what...
