Ray's Crab Shack — Restaurant in Newark

Combo seafood was good. I liked that it included shrimp, crawfish, mussels, sausages, corn, and clams. But the crawfish isn't fresh. There was plenty of sauce, and the sauce was flavorful. We got the combination of all the sauces. The portion is good for 2-3 ppl. The calamari was a bit over fried, making it a bit chewy. Don't get the garlic fries unless you just want to eat a big heap of garlic just put on top of the fries. It would have been better if it had been hand tossed to distribute it evenly on the fries. The garlic noodles had too much garlic as well, and the noodles were stuck together. So, it was hard to get portions from the container. The service was alright. There were only 2 servers, but they were helpful.

Update for 3/2025: Ordered the combo. Shrimp is fresh and tasted good. Crawfish, not so much. Seems like the portion got smaller. The mixed sauce is good and flavorful. The garlic noodles tasted better, and it is not stuck together. Secret to that is to order with less garlic. Service is still slow, but servers...

We got takeout so not much could go wrong as far as service. We called prior to coming and only waited a few minutes. The order was correct, complete and well packed for transport. The food quality was not good and considering the cost, we are not going back. We ordered two lobster rolls, one with Cajun Fries the other plain fries. Last entree was a seafood combo also with Cajun Fries. First off the Cajun Fries were way over seasoned, too salty to eat, had to throw those out. The Lobster Rolls weren't on a roll, but thick bread slice, not cut all the way through so it was like a bread slice taco. The Lobster was tough to chew and stringy without much flavor. I assume it was over cooked, kind of like when you overcook shrimp. Regardless it was a very disappointing experience, I really wanted to like this, such a shame. These three items, no drinks, was over $90 w/tip over $100. Way too costly for such poor quality food. I would not...

This is what we ordered: Clam Chowder- very good with whole clams. Downside- only a few clams as if they counted how much goes into each coffee cup size portions. For the price you'd expect a bread bowl, additional $3. Not worth it. The garbage bag of shrimps, mussels, crawfish, X2 pcs of 1/3 Cob of corn & sausage slices. Tastes like boiled stuff dumped into a pot of grease with herbs and spices. The shrimps fell apart cuz it's been boiled too long. The crayfish were so small, meat smaller than the shrimps. Corn cobbettes so greasy it was like biting into a stick of butter. The sausage was not even edible. Crab Roll- Horrible. Crab meat had no taste. They added so much of other sauces and fillers that it drowned the crabmeat.
