The Angry Donut is a fun little cafe that offers your typical cafe drinks, salads, sandwiches, and yes… donuts. Normally I would be all about the donuts, but it was lunch time, I needed something healthier, and I opted for the BLAT sandwich. Stands for bacon, lettuce, avocado, and tomato. It was an amazingly fine crafted sandwich that tasted amazing. While waiting for our food, I looked around the cafe. You enter to a counter where you order your food, the cafe selections are off to the left above the counter, breakfast sandwich offerings where on the counter to the left, and the lunch options were on a chalkboard to the right of the counter. (Probably my only beef with the place is that the menus were split up.) There was a small, but nice dining area to the right of the cafe, and there was outdoor seating. We took advantage of the outdoor seating and enjoyed a nice day in the courtyard that the shop is located.

The staff was cool and handled our large-ish order with care and accuracy. Next time I come back, I will...

I will have to come back, as they were out of donuts “due to machine issue,” but I got a “cookie donut,” which tastes phenomenal and like a German christmas cookie from childhood that I cannot remember the name of.

They have a TON more than donuts though! There are salads and sandwiches and coffees with every imaginable alternative to dairy.

They are down an alley, so if your GPS says “you have reached your destination” and you’re like “uh…that’s an Italian restaurant!” Do not be discouraged!!!! It’s down the alley across from the playground.

Due to the nature of these brick paths, it is not anywhere near what I would call accessible.

Also, I am fragile and slower, and kids were literally biking up and down the sidewalks such that I had to jump out of the way.

The place itself has lovely indoor and outdoor seating and I will have to come back to try a...

Local donut shop in Newburyport popular among the locals.

First stopped by last summer and was impressed by their classic chocolate old-fashioned. Crispy edges, perfect sweetness level, and just the right density. Came back recently to explore more of their lineup, but was a bit underwhelmed. I tried the Fruity Pebbles and the Boston Cream, and despite arriving not long after opening, both were slightly dry. The Boston Cream in particular lacked filling, which made it feel more like a regular glazed than a filled donut.

Given the price point, I was expecting something more on par with Kane’s or Union Square, but outside of the old-fashioneds, the quality didn’t quite justify the cost. Since this is the only donut shop in the area besides Dunkin, I might come back to get more of their old-fashioned flavors, but I’ll likely skip the other...
