Dyno Records — Local services in Newburyport

Dyno Records is a real vintage record store, and I don't mean that they have just "vintage" or second-hand merchandise, although they do have those things along with new releases. It's vintage in the sense that it's not huge, impersonal and overwhelming like the big box stores are. When I was in there before Christmas, the place was bustling. The clerk was taking special orders, helping people find things, and making recommendations. I liked the selection that was available and the atmosphere in the store, and I walked out of there with two CDs as presents, feeling relaxed and accomplished -- Christmas shopping had actually been enjoyable! It's hard to find a store like this nowadays, and It'll be a sad day if small record stores like this ever...

Prices are okay. They're about 10% higher than other area indie shops. Also... they have zero online presence. No page on Discogs, and nothing on their own website.

I grew up in Newburyport and Dyno seems to have as well. I understand it's been there forever, but the demographics of vinyl enthusiasts are different now. They need to evolve with the times and be something other than a shop on a side street. I should be able to search their inventory online, buy online and either pick it up or have them ship. Within the past month I've visited a half-dozen record stores because I was looking for particular records, which I found on those store's websites or...

We were wandering around NBPT over the summer waiting for our reservation and decided to stop in, surprised that it was open at 8:30. The shop is exactly what I want a record store to be like. I happened to find a record I wanted and when checking out, the gentleman who was reading the newspaper at the register, was so friendly and gave me a bonus 45!
