An inexpensive place to get meats and veggies in downtown Newnan, I personally love going to Golden's because I go here with my mom, and it reminds me of growing up. It is cafeteria-style, in an old historic building on the Court Square. It is rustic and feels historic. It is hard to go here without running into an old friend, or people who are just friendly.
Their staples are fried chicken, meatloaf, fried catfish or some other fish, or turkey and dressing. There may be other choices, depending on the day. Typical veggies options are green beans, creamed corn, fried okra, some sort of beans, fried green tomatoes, mashed sweet potatoes, and turnip greens. They don't use animal products in their vegetables (I asked, because I do not eat meat). Mom does, and she always likes their meat options. We always get the corn muffins instead of the rolls. The banana pudding is good for dessert options, but I am not crazy about the brownie with walnuts (it was too airy and oily). The last time I had banana pudding, it tasted like my grandmother's. Today, we had an orange pudding, which had whipped cream on top and a nice graham cracker crust. It reminded me of an orange creamsicle and was good. They have tea, water, and Coke machines.
The people who work there always remember us and ask me how my mom is if I go for a To-Go order. They treat everyone great! It's always busy from 12-1 on Sundays and during the week, so plan accordingly. You will not spend too much money but you will leave full and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreVisit here often. Food is decent. Some staff donāt seem as friendly with certain people. Iāve witnessed it a few times even with my own child. I sent my child back to the counter to get a lid for the to go cup because the lady didnāt give me enough and instead of her giving it to him in his hand she dropped it on the counter and pushed it on the counter for him to pick up. Same concept as people not wanting to put money in a person of colorās hand. But the food is decent which is why I go. I just donāt understand why they given so little portions with a childās plate especially with the rice. They give as little rice as possible with a childās plate. Most times I just get an adult plate for my child. I just left and watched the parent in front of me ask for some more rice cause it was barely any on the plate. Iām sure they charged her extra for it. Like put a decent portion on the kid plate please. At least a spoonful. And yes parents can go cook their own rice but if we are paying for it at least give a decent portion. Might be hard to tell from this pic but that is about a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe live farther away and have only been to Golden's a few times, but it's a great spot when you want some good old southern food. While waiting in line today I was most impressed with a young lady wearing a smart blue jumpsuit. Because of the way she was dressed I thought she was a customer, but then I realized she was bussing tables along with the other folks who were obviously dressed as staff. On multiple occasions I observed her (and other staff) assisting elderly people to tables - several times she held their hands as they walked slowly to a table. It was just a nice, sweet moment to observe as I stood in line with my own elderly mother. Later, while filling mom's drink I crossed paths with the young lady and noted her stylish attire - she laughingly explained that her mother and grandmother operate Golden's, and that she'd just come down to help out. Happy Mother's Day to everyone...
