If you are visiting Newport, OR - do yourself a huge favor and stop in to see my friends at Newport Steak and Seafood! BEST TIME TO GO??? 3:00 pm! At 5? Forget it... WHERE TO SIT??? At the bar in the lounge! WHO TO ASK FOR??? My man - Charlie! (Tell him TODD - "terribly odd" sent you!) He will hook you up! As he says,"I got you!" and he does! š¤šš¤
My wife and I stopped in yesterday for a quick nibble to celebrate a victory for my wife at work. I'm simply the trophy husband. š
Every single bite was beyond outstanding! I ordered the big-boy steak, rare... with a big salad instead of a potato side with soup/salad.
Charlie brought out this amazing platter of freshly made bread and whipped butter. Absolutely, decadent... My mouth is watering now just giving this review. Then he dropped off our salads.
Folks, the greens in this salad were so fresh! The heavy handed display of FRESH cucumber was low on seeds and skin! Summer perfection! And, nary a cucumber burp to be had later in the evening. Both our salads were so cooling, crisp and refreshing.
Then we heard the bells ring in the back of the house and Charlie said, "your steaks are ready! I'll be right back!" He topped off our drinks constantly and made sure we wanted for nothing! Despite the fact he was super busy and short staffed.
Then the PERFECTLY seared meat arrived! Listen people... I am so picky with my steaks, I haven't had one since we took our little girls to Disney World twenty years ago! We had dinner in Cinderella's Castle and I ordered a steak. That steak was the single best steak I have ever had IN MY PATHETIC LIFE!!!
This 16 oz piece of beautiful bovine was so soft and flavorful. No gristle to be found, at all! It was one of those steaks you slow down to enjoy... you savor each and every smoky succulent bite.... I was in big-boy heaven!
Let me tell you a secret about Newport and the surrounding areas. You WILL get ripped off at other locations. You WILL spend a small fortune for little flavor. Poor service. Stale tea. And then you have the fast food joints where you get human dog food and still spend a fortune!
They aren't all bad here on the coast but we've lived here for years and this was the first big splurge we have entertained in many long years. We received so much excellence for our money, we were more than happy to heavily tip my man, Charlie!
This was an important event for us and Newport Steak and Seafood BLEW US AWAY!!!
Here's a little secret about me. My Spirit Guide is the great Kodiak. I've known this since I was eleven. I'm fifty six now. When I get an exceptional piece of beef or Salmon? I can see my Spirit Guide in my head, rolling around on his back on freshly fallen bed of fall leaves - content and satisfied.
I saw and felt my Kodiak as we walked to our car. Utterly and completely at peace and satisfied with life. AND IT WAS GOOD!!!
Give this place a shot! Ask for CHARLIE (Monday - Thursday) and relax... Because?...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhere do i start? Preamble: this is going to be the lowest scored review i've ever given, so if you love this place, move on. If you want an honest review from a non Newport local before you decide where to get dinner, read on. Background: There is a group of 28 of us camping at Alsea Bay RV for our annual reunion. We decide to go out to a seafood dinner one night, so no one has to cook or do dishes. We called around to all the seafood resturants we found on Google Maps within 1/2 hour of our campground. Every one was asked the same question: "can you handle a party of 28 at 6:00 tonight?" This was at 10am. If "no", then we moved on to the next place: no harm, no foul- that's a big ask. This place "no problem!" "Are you SURE? 28? No problem? At 6:00? Tonight?" "Yes! No problem!" "Okay, put us down for 28 people at 6 O'clock tonight."
Fast Forward to 5:55, when we approached the resturant. My first impression is that they couldn't accomodate 28 people in the whole building, let alone the dining room! We asked the waitress that greeted us at the door for our reserved seating for the party of 28, that we had called ahead for at 10 that morning. "We cannot handle 28 people at once!" "What?!?" Another waitress comes up "you have to wait until 6:30!" We grumble, but agree to wait. We stand in the cold wind and wait by the front door. At 6:10, another party arrives and says to the waitress "we are the party that called for 14 people at 6:30." "Please come this way." WHAT?!? So, we get seated (after the party of 14 that got seated 20 minutes early) at 6:35. They finally brought out our food at 7:40. [I should say started to bring out; read on.] My wife and I got fish & chips, her fish was salty and room temperatute. My fish was warm but tasteless, but my fries were cold. Not room temp, but cold. Dads seafood platter was luke warm, the clams were chewy, and the fish was fishy. Everyone else had similar complaints. The best of all was that they served our youngest party member his dinner AFTER they had cleared most of the rest of our dinner plates! Yeah great service, from the 10:00am reservation call until 8:00pm cleanup started before one persons' dinner was served. If there waa the possibility of giving negative reviews, this would be the first, and only, time i would leave -5 on food and service. I'd still leave a 0 for atmosphere- they tried, just failed on decor: it's like being in a Dennys or Motel 6 lobby...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe food was delicious! Many options for seafood, as well as steak....but the owners are Mexican and they offer a full menu page of Mexican food options. There are also a few typical American food options.
3 people in our group had the seafood fettuccine, and we all agreed we'd definitely order it again. The other dishes were all really good, too, especially the Porterhouse Steak. They also offer a children's menu with several varying options on it; mac and cheese, sandwiches (grilled cheese or pb&j), chicken strips, corn dogs.
The staff were all polite, helpful, and very kind. The restaurant was fairly busy when we arrived, and all of the waitstaff helped each other's tables instead of ignoring the customers or putting them off with excuses about not being their server like some places do. They made sure to acknowledge us each time they passed our way, and to apologize for the delay even though the delay wasn't so bad.
The prices are about what you'd expect to pay for such great food, so no complaints there....but if the dining area wasn't quite so crowded the prices would make more sense. The interior definitely needs some updating, but I always look for cleanliness above all else, and it was definitely clean.
When it was time to go, our server brought to-go boxes to the table and boxed our food up, and then neatly bagged it up so we weren't balancing our boxes, and risking dropping them on the way to the car. Several of us ordered their recommended bread pudding for dessert and got it to-go, and when the server delivered it to the table it was also bagged up with napkins and utensils included. He took a moment to tell us the best method to heat it up for the tastiest results, and we were not disappointed.
This little restaurant will be on our list to visit again, and our group all agreed that we'd most definitely recommend it to others. Definitely give...
