Taste of India 2 — Restaurant in Newport

We've been waiting for this restaurant to open for seated dining. Tonite was our first visit and what a treat. We ordered Dal (lentil) soup, Tandoori Chicken, garlic Naan and Aloo Gobi. We also opted for medium spice. We were delighted with our choices and the food received. The Dal was maybe a little hot when delivered, but the spicing was simply delicious. Full flavors were evident in every spoonful. The soup was thinner than other Dal soups I have had, but again...very yummy. The Tandoori Chicken was delivered Fajitas style on a sizzling iron skillet. This brought is some nice tableside flare to whet your appetite for the classic flavors of Tandoori Chicken; tender and tasty. Side note: I ordered a house special cocktail, the Watermelon Mojito. Highly reccommend. Its delicate sweetness is the perfect compliment to the spicy food I was enjoying. Garlic Naan...what can I say...they didn't screw this up either. Lastly was the Aloo Gobi which stood up nicely to the other dishes. Other notes...the interior is still a work in process, the food was a little pricy for the perceived level of the restaurant and the food was delivered "casually"...or whenever it came out of the kitchen. Overall...I would give these folks a solid 4/5 and look forward to exploring more of their menu on my next visit. Taste of India is a welcome addition to the Newport food scene and we...

THIS PLACE IS INCREDIBLE!!! I came here with my family and it’s easily one of the best Indian meals I’ve ever had. We stopped in for dinner and everything from the food to the service to the vibe was spot on!

We started with a mango lassi and WOW, hands down the best I’ve ever had, and I’ve tried multiple from different spots. Perfectly sweet, super fresh, and hit the spot. For my main, I went with the lamb korma based on our server Sancio’s recommendation and it was unreal. Rich, flavorful, tender, just everything you want it to be. Shoutout to Sancio too, who was super accommodating and a chill guy to chat with. Great energy, super helpful, and really knew the menu. Franzy, the other server, was also awesome—super funny and just added to the overall good vibes. Kush (the cook) was also a super cool guy! Checked on us multiple times and made incredible food!

Loved the ambiance too! A great mix of authenticity and modern flair. Really thoughtfully designed and super clean. You can tell a lot of care goes into the whole experience here.

The food was DELICIOUS. Unfortunately, I had to eat most of mine reheated at home. I got off work at 7:30 and met a friend there. Neither of us had tried it but had really wanted to. The service was not friendly; we didn’t seem to have a dedicated server and not one of them smiled. We didn’t know what we were doing and so ordered a lot of food. $96 worth, to be exact. We had barely begun eating when a server approached and told us “we close at 8:15”. This was a Saturday night. (Posted hours said 8:30, which I didn’t know.) Very convenient that they told us AFTER we ordered all the food. They brought boxes and very shortly (10 minutes) turned the lights up super bright. It was so incredibly rude and inconsiderate! I will spend my $$$ on restaurants that appreciate my business, not...
