On the first visit, everything was great. However, the second visit went downhill as time passed. It was busy with only 2 servers working the floor which was fine until our order was wrong and then we were ignored after the mistake was fixed. I had to wait for the correct dish to come out after my date was almost finished with his. No biggie, mistakes happen but then we waited for 15 minutes after we were both done eating for the check. Decided to follow what others were doing and go to the front to pay. My partner went up to the front, asked to pay for the meal and get a dessert to go since we were there for an hour and half already. The older lady behind the counter proceeded to roll her eyes and let out a long sigh and flicked her hand in a "go away" motion and told him that she would send the check to the table. My partner was shocked by the interaction and sat down at the table to tell me what had happened. I then saw the man that sat at the table next to us able to pay right after my partner was rudely shushed away. This man was the second group sitting at that table in the duration we were there, that's how long it was taking to get service. After seeing the same rude waitress drop off condiments to several tables, printed out two checks and drop them off to table that were sat long after we were, and then started to bus the table next to us, I decided to just leave cash on the table. It wasn't until she saw that I was counting out cash that she came over to tell us that our check was coming. I told her no, we're not doing that, left cash on the table and finally left. I understand being busy but being extremely rude is...
Read moreI'm a frequent visitor to Thai restaurants, but Thai Port has catapulted into my top 3, possibly even the top spot! If I wasn't just passing through Newport for business, I'd be a regular here, multiple times a week! The wait staff were exceptionally friendly, attentive, and efficient, even when I arrived during the last hour of service. The Thai iced tea was expertly balanced, with a depth of flavor that avoided overwhelming spices - genuinely perfect! The pad see ew was one of the best renditions I've had the pleasure of enjoying. Simple yet sublime, with broccoli and chicken that boasted a rich, seasoned flavor that left me craving more. I nearly licked the plate clean! The crab rangoons were bite-sized perfection, with a delightful crunch and sauce in the first bite, followed by a generous serving of crab filling in the second. A charming bonus: they resembled the crabbing boats bobbing outside in the stunning view! 10/10, I'll definitely return and make Thai Port my go-to spot when I'm back in Newport. Thank you for the warm hospitality, Thai Port -...

We were sad to find Newport Thai food to be so-so ...then Port Thai opened. We have loved the peanut curry dish and the Tom Ka was one of the best we have ever had. We have heard that the salmon should skipped (for $17, did you think that you would be getting quality salmon?..nah). My wife is a Pad Thai critic and finds Port Thai's to be a 6 of 10
The wait staff has been excellent especially Precious who has been extremely thoughtful with helping us with menu selection. She has a great way of describing tastes. We have grown fond of seeing her when we come in.
The views of the bay from the restaurant are exceptional. As we ate dinner we enjoyed watching returning fishing boats passing under the bridge and watching a sea lion devour some sea creature just outside our window.
If you can get there early when you have the best shot of having the place to ...
