Provencal Bakery — Restaurant in Newport

IM FROM MIDDLETOWN RI BORN AND RAISED ON THIS ORIGINAL MOCHA CAKE!!!!!! I AM A local and I’ll be in Tomorrow and the peanut butter cookies also were old as dirt ! The chic chip mms cookies were AMAZING!!!! But Absolutely Horrible Mocha Cake ONLY BECAUSE IT WAS OLD!!!! It is usually Fabulous here especially because they use the iconic Frasiers Bakery’s original recipe ( BEST MOCHA CAKE 🍰 EVER) well this day we were sold OLD Stale slices of cake at $5.95 each and then I purchased 15 cookies at $2.50 each no deal if you buy a Dozen of cookies NOPE $2.50 each and the choc.chip were Yummy and the candied cookies ( mms, on top) were delicious as well but they had sold me $13 worth of OLD Nasty Peanut Butter cookies that tasted like stinky refrigerator Oder would taste if you know what I mean that “refrigerator” taste and were hard and crumbled to dust as soon as you bit it !!! Absolutely disgusting Cake & PB cookies. I have Pictures I’m posting on Instagram as well because I called the owner 3x with NO return call and NO refund so they are missing out on a $10k cake and sweets order for the Party ( I work for a famous wedding planner) and we have 20 wedding booked this summer in Newport & Portsmouth! And after the Horrible customer service and food here we will definitely not be using this bakery! I’m from Middletown, Born & Raised and the wedding planner I work for will also let the other planners know not to use this Bakery! And it’s too bad because IF they could’ve gotten the mocha cake right ( we have four weddings where the bride is looking for mocha cakes for a vibrant young couples that are looking for something Different and I grew up on frasiers bakery mocha so I was going to bring it to my boss to show her and it was an embarrassment when I showed it to her for a tasting before we have the Brides taste and never did I know or think in my wildest dreams they sell me stale cake and then when I called to ask if they can do something about this or fix it I get no response and then got hung up on by the owner! Unbelievable they’re going to be missing a lot of money this summer and like I said, one of the cakes was a $10,000 cake mocha cake at that but we will be shopping elsewhere for the cookies, designs...

Went here after wanting to try it for a while, service at front counter was terrible. I’m normally not one to leave reviews, but the woman that made our coffees and checked us out was very rude. She snapped at my coworker when she tried to order an additional item, accusing her of trying to take a DoorDash order, and was extremely slow. Charged me $15 for a breakfast sandwich and medium coffee even though the sign inside clearly stated it was an $11 special. My breakfast sandwich took a while to be made, which I didn’t think was that weird. However, when my sandwich was ready, she handed it to me and told me after it was in my hands that my order was incorrect, and she gave the door dasher (who had left 5 minutes prior) my sandwich. This was more of a statement than an apology- she didn’t seem at all willing to correct my order. I was already ready to leave after our previous interactions with her, and felt really awkward telling her to remake it correctly, since she seemed intent on getting us out of there. My son and I visited Newport for the day and did a nice 20 mile bike ride, ending up at the bakery at the end of our ride. We were looking for something simple and filling and it delivered. He got the fresh turkey sandwich which was great quality - bit could use a little more flavor. I ordered the curry chicken sandwich which was just amazing. The baguette fresh and the chicken was full of flavor. We also grabbed a couple of chocolate mousse’s which were also excellent. Not too sweet or decadent - just perfect for the end of a ride.
