Listen, living in Newport,Rhode Island off and on for over 30yrs. I have experienced that there will definitely be many changes in how much everything will be presented in any environment you may visit or reside in. Newport has many options for whatever dining experience you prefer. From to $2.00 jumbo all beef hots @ Cumberland farms on Broadway to ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Dining @theclarkecookehouse I tend to stay in between those 2 realms and the experience of dinner @ Caleb & Broad is a great experience of fast service and great food. My Nephew Frequents the establishment so he invited me to dine there being I have never been there. To my Surprise they have promotional days and I just happened to dine there one of them. To my Surprise they have a weekly promotion where their main entrees are ONLY $12.00 !!! 👀 Yup no bluffing, I am not gonna make a spoiler for this review But when you look @ the Caleb and Broad Prices For there main entrees it will definitely motivate you to Stop by or maybe even become a regular. as far as the quality of food you get for $12.00 entrees (remember that's the Caleb and Broad promotional days price, not regular house priced) the food was spectacular. I decided to have their Ribeye Steak medium rare paired with root vegetable hash. I substituted the root vegetable hash for tater tots which were amazing but instead of the substitution being on the house it ended up costing an extra $3.00 for the tater tots substitution which I was not informed about a $3.00 extra charge for an entree vegetable substitution and that is reflected in the ⭐⭐⭐ in service for that miscommunication pertaining to vegetable substitution of a main entree. Basically I kept it Conservative being it was my 1st. Experience at Caleb and Broad I didn't feel compelled to have a drink or two so I opted out for Water (being I ALWAYS have a bottle of high end Champagne waiting for me at home) which was spring water that's what my taste buds detected. I drank 2-3 classes and the water was soo cold it didn't need Ice The entire time we dined. I was soo satisfied with the food that I didn't have dessert. The Atmosphere was casual my Nephew and I arrived between 6-7pm we dined for less than an hour being we didn't have drinks with the meals. To Sum up this review I end it with, This sure will be a place to visit on a summer evening, the promotional day entrees will surely make you a regular even if you don't live less than 5 Minutes away from Caleb & Broad like I do. ...
Read moreFollowing brunch just down the street in Newport, we ventured off to grab a quick drink. Initially, we had intentions of giving an establishment adjacent to C & B a try, but quickly found their doors closed. No worries, C & B was on our list of must see locations & folks were filling in for all the same reasons.
After filling our bellies we did not have enough room to sample the goods that we have heard so much about, so we simply stuck with just beverages at the wonderful bar.
C & B does offer a fairly sizable drink selection with no less than a couple dozen beers. Unfortunately, we found the beer selection both on tap & in bottle to be uneventful. Essentially, standard affair for craft, micro, & big names.
Most of the beer offerings steered toward the session or less creative side, which might suggest that the general clientele or proprietor aesthetic lean toward craft culture for recent converts or the novice. That is not to say that they did not have something that would satisfy.
We hope to make return trip in the near future to try one of the many well received items from the kitchen, but at this time we will summarize our initial outing as pleasing & satisfactory.
If your in town & out & about, try it for yourself. Stop by & tell them that...
Read moreMy husband and the couple that we dined with absolutely LOVED their meal. They had a Wasabi fish meal, and one had a short rib dish with pesto pasta that looked delicious. Unfortunately, I did not, but please let me explain, as it was not due to the lack of quality or portion size or anything else......I'm a VERY plain eater. When something tastes different, due to a special seasoning or spice, it's unpleasant. I ordered what i thought would have been a safe bet, fish and chips. My fish was a beautiful thick cut, light and flaky filet that was cooked perfectly. However, it was seasoned with some kind of citrus fruit either as a marinade or as a flavoring added to the batter. It left an aftertaste in my mouth that tasted like a kitchen cleaner, like how you would imagine Pinesol tasting. It was a disappointment to what would otherwise have been a beautiful meal. It was very bothersome because I couldn't force myself to eat it. The menu was very unique, and I can respect that, because you want to stand out and not be boring. I just feel that some things that are known to taste a certain way shouldn't be messed with. The service was excellent and the dessert was delicious....just can't shake...
