On Thursday night, we ate at close to the base at Newport Tokyo House. Prices were similar to our local Japanese hibachi restaurant. However, we thought this was some of the worst tasting Japanese food we have ever eaten. Hibachi tables did not have AC working. It was like 90F inside, but a handheld controller said 66F, which was a joke. We decided to sit at a regular table on the other side of the restaurant, which was cool and nice. ALL meals we ordered had 'seasoning' sprinkled over the food, which tasted like Old Bay seasoning. So, imagine a teriyaki taste mixed with Old Bay. Disgusting. Shrimp was dry, tasted like it had been precooked and sitting for awhile, sprinkled with sauce and 'Newport' seasoning. Fried rice was more gray, than normal fried rice. It also just tasted blech....couldn't eat it. Other meals looked good, well presented, however, they were bland and tasteless sans Newport seasoning/Old Bay like. It was a weird experience and that "smell" of the seasoning lingered for hours. If I lived here, I would never return. Good notes: appeared clean, loved...
Read morei really wish i could give this place an infinite amount of stars. i was here a week ago and it was my first time in rhode island, as i live in new york, so i’m sure you could imagine i know japanese cuisine, and specifically good quality sushi, very well. there was no one else dining in when i entered the restaurant, but my family and i were greeted extremely warmly and politely by the hostess. the atmosphere inside was so calming and cute. when our food was brought out, you could tell it was fresh, and the plating was beautiful!! my father doesn’t know how to use chopsticks, so the lady made him a pair, held together at the top of the sticks by a rubber band, in order to help him navigate how to use them! so sweet! our food was sooo delicious, and the prices were insanely affordable! for the most part, newport was extremely over priced, but for the quality of the sushi, and the cheaper than new york prices of it??? i was so taken aback. i wish i lived closer as i would gladly be there...
Read moreAwful is the word to describe this place. My husband and I ordered delivery because it was a little bit later than when we usually eat so we figured ordering would be faster and easier than cooking. I was told 30-40 minutes after ordering to only wait an hour! I had called in the mean time to be told, "I don't know why the driver is taking so long." Food finally came and the driver was rude and on top of that the bag was soaked from something leaking! The shrimp was tough and clearly burnt and everything tasted awful. My kids didn't even like the food!! I called to complain to a manager who wasn't present. They tried to offer a credit which I didn't want so the man I spoke with said he would refund the money...2 weeks later, no money has yet to be refunded. When I called a week later, I was told to "give it a few days." Never again will I ever order from Tokyo house and never in life will I...
