A close relative of mine was recently admitted to Newport Hospital. When I tried calling to find out what had happened, his nurse, Ashley, told me that she had received several calls from my relativeโs family members, and that we needed to coordinate and form a โtelephone treeโ and only one of us could call the hospital. She made it quite plain that she resented taking phone calls, and that we were interfering with her delivery of care to her patients. I asked if she could ask my relative if he could speak to me, to which Ashley told me that she could not give needed medication to my relative, because she was talking on the phone to me. As it happens, I also work in healthcare, so I understand the pressures of trying to care for patients while also be called upon to alleviate the fears of their families. However, I donโt think it appropriate to try to persuade families not to try to ascertain that their relatives are not in fact unconscious or dying, or to imply that by calling the hospital they are jeopardizing the chances of a relativeโs receiving the care that they need. This was not a HIPPA issue. I have taken an endless number of courses on HIPPA restrictions and was very careful not to ask any questions that would put a nurse in the awkward position of telling me that they could not answer. I just wanted to know if I could speak with my relative. Some of my patients never have anyone check on their welfare, and after my lecture from Ashley, I was intimidated into have someone else in my family check on my relativeโs status. Every member of my family has at one time in our lives spent time at Newport Hospital. This was the first time that Iโve had such a negative...
ย ย ย Read moreI've frequented Newport Hospital for specialty care referrals and unfortunately on an occasion that required a visit to the emergency room. Each time went as well as can be expected and I would return if the need arose.
Parking is generous. Emergency room parking has a lot closer to its entrance. General parking is across the street and I had no issues. If full, there is some street parking in the surrounding areas.
If you've never been to this hospital, you must show a government-issued identification card. The receptionist will take your information so that the next time you visit you can simply just give your name and proceed to your appointment area.
Homemade masks are not allowed. If you're wearing a cloth mask, one will be given to you that meets their standards. You can wear one or both but mask-wearing is mandated inside the hospital at all times.
The nurses and other workers I came into contact with were very helpful. On my first visit, I got lost and someone actually walked me all the way to the area I needed to be in without feeling like I was taking them away from something.
My ER visit was a smooth one. I did have to pass through a metal detector so that was the only odd thing. I get it, at some point, something has happened to make it a necessity to do things a certain way. My entire ER visit was a little over an hour from check-in to discharge. They even had cable in the room I was placed in while waiting. I just knew I was gonna have a nap while there...nope! Things progressed in a timely manner and I was on my way.
If needed, I would choose service at this hospital based on my...
ย ย ย Read moreI visited Newport, Rhode Island to surprise my daughter on her engagement day. Little did I know that I would hug my daughter, welcome her fiance' into our family and then spend the next 5 days in ICU and Room #423. I found the staff to be extremely caring and professional. They were extremely attentive and made my stay in the Hospital a 5 Star Event. The Emergency Room people immediately took charge and set me on the road to recovery. These are some of the people that I came in contact with during my experience. Dr. Gemme, (ER) Dr. Velasquez, (Internalist and Sleep Specialist), He makes a Bow Tie look good. The ICU was unbelievable starting with Susan, Moe, Cam, Donna, Joellen (Sharp Lady), The Good Priest and the Portuguese woman that cleaned my room. When I was moved upstairs I had the pleasure of being with Mary from Block Island. Brandon, a very happy young man, Julia Grimes is gifted with a disarming smile and extremely intelligent. My last nurse was Laura, a transplanted New Jersey Girl from Medford Lakes, NJ. She misses Pat's Steaks. I was blessed to have Dr. Tettye and Dr. Anise. Overall, my experience with the Newport Hospital was outstanding. Your Staff also took care of my wife. We can't thank you enough. I am on the fast track to recovery. Your experience, diligence, courtesy and caring attitude is infectious. You touched our hearts and l want ted to say THANK YOU AGAIN. i LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU AGAIN ON BOWENS WHARF. Have a Great Summer. You are all invited to my Home in Ocean City, NJ.
