This restaurant carries a nice appearance. It is fresh, new, and hip. The seating in the bar area can accomodate parties of 8, which is nice. However, a 20% gratuity for 6 or more is contentious. I would suggest 8 or more. The open kitchen view is a neat site, seeing your food prepared. The hostess was pleasant and the server was, as well. Where the two stars are earned: the minimalist menu is lacking, the prices are high, the expectation of quality of food is not commensurate with the price. Lacking menu: a neat and tidy menu is appreciated, but when two of the five main dishes are duck, that is a problem for people who don't like duck. It really seemed as if they tried too hard to be bare-bones with the menu. Expected quality of food: the pulled pork pizza was absolutely lacking in flavor and quality. The pieces of "pulled pork" were more representative of a piece of pork that was torn apart, very few large pieces which were not tender. The pizza sauce, from appearance and taste, only had tomatoes in it, no spice. The jalapeno peppers contained no heat, as all the seeds were removed. The thin crust would have been nice had not it been comparable to the flavor and texture of a saltine cracker. This apparent lack of effort was seen in the "hamburger" dish and also the "spaetzle" dish. This lack of effort and quality is then priced too high. The plain-jane hamburger is $12, the pulled pork pizza was $18, and the spaetzle was $15. If you are looking for a place to go have a drink, this place will suit your needs as the bar is well-stocked. If you enjoy dancing, the main dining area turns into a dance floor sometime after 10:00pm on a Friday night (unsure about recurring frequency). The Fifth Element is not a bad place altogether, but as a restaurant, definitely needs a...
Read moreI was a bit surprised by how good the reviews are, as we had a disappointing experience.
We came here for New Year's Eve. The place was a lot more crowded than they had indicated, and they weren't checking vaccination status despite saying they were. This was a bit concerning because the crowd next to us were definitely anti-vaxxers based on their conversations.
The beer menu is lackluster--not really much in the way of craft beers aside from a couple options.
Appetizers were good--we ordered the lamb poutine and the lobster bisque. Could have been more lobster in the bisque and it was very salty. The poutine was delicious and had plenty of meat and gravy.
The entrees were terrible. I ordered a NYE special: beef wellington. The puff pastry breading was so doughy that it had the consistency of melted cheese. The beef wellington had absolutely no flavor (one of the first times I have had to ask for salt). It had not been prepared like a true beef wellington. It came with brussel sprouts of which about half of them were cooked and the other half were still crunchy. It also came with carrots which were tasty, but were laying on a bed of dried out mashed potatoes. Absolutely terrible for a $38 entree. I could have paid $1 for a Hot Pocket and enjoyed it more (they looked the same).
My girlfriend ordered the short rib, which came out extremely dry and with barely any gravy to offset the dryness. She was also disappointed with her entree.
Service was pleasant and prompt, but I do not plan on coming back here. This was $140 of disappointment. We left earlier than we planned to and went to a local...
Read moreWe really love this place and it is often a go to for the Element Salad.
Food: For real — with or without protein this Salad is a star among eateries in this area! My husband loves that they have a Wedge and often splurges on it with his burger he ordered from here. Other items that are note worthy: baked Brussel Sprouts, Poutine - so yummy with Lamb!!!! Worth knowing: the pizzas are large and very delicious - but so rich in flavor you will want to share and enjoy a salad if anything additional— they are that filling!
Service: From bar tenders to wait staff this place is great - everyone’s nice, attentive and always at the ready. I love that they give us a big pitcher of water knowing how much we love our H2O
Drinks: Excellent pours and flavorful!
Atmosphere: we enjoy the atmosphere of the bar and restaurant side — but admit we enjoy visiting before 7pm when live music happens — it’s just too loud for us to enjoy one another. As such, this is often a place we run to and then on the way realize it’s too late and will be too loud so we go elsewhere. Of course we are older, and I realize we are the fuddy Duddy fifty something’s so I don’t ever hold this against this delicious restaurant.
Noteworthy: if you have a large party, special occasion birthday or bachelorette shindig - this place has a unique large party drink experience and the photos would be worth including it in your plans. Can’t comment on the taste because we...
