So, I was waiting for my tires to get done at Firestone but was hungry and decided to walk to the nearest open food establishment. Tried The High Cup but wasn’t my cup of tea. Then I walked to La Brioche. I’m sooo glad I did!
A woman walked in right behind me and I let her go first because she knew what she wanted. She told me that EVERYTHING was delicious, so pick anything. The lady behind the counter was French and I told her I’d like a sandwich and asked if the Macarons were French? She said yes… I’m skeptical because it’s hard to find REAL French Macarons. Anyone who has had REAL French macarons know how hard it is to get them in the US. I decided to get three (blueberry lavender, citrus, and Hazelnut). I paid for my sandwich, Macarons, and walked out.
I took a bit of my sandwich while walking back to Firestone… I was so HAPPY, the bread alone was exactly what you want from a baguette. Flavorful, crusty on the outside, and soft on the inside. Mmmm mmmm mmm. The inside ingredients was soooo fresh and tasty. Italian meets and cheese, including prosciutto, tomato, and lettuce. You could taste each item on their own but also amazing together. I got back to the Firestone, sat down, and finished my sandwich.
I pulled out one Macaron at a time, ready to be disappointed. Instead I was wonderfully surprised! REAL French Macarons that would even give Ladurée a run for their money. The flavor comes from the cookie AND the filling instead of blah cookie with the same weird cream in all the middles of every Macaron. Each Macaron had a different vibrant flavor and there was no weird cream in the middle. Instead it was a burst of flavor that was true to name! Blueberry and lavender was bright with berry and mellow with lavender. The citrus was an explosion of bright sunny citrus flavor, what I imagine a bit out of the sun would taste like. The hazelnut nut was exactly what you expect, nutty and creamy without the American Nutella twist of chocolate. This stands all on its own! Would recommend 10 out of 10.
I didn’t even try any of the other delicacies but will definitely be...
Read moreAbsolutely divine French bakery in the Neon district of Norfolk! Fantastic staff, service, and food! They made my daughter's 22nd birthday a delightful and memorable occasion. We tried so many French specialties it was a wonderful delightful morning with friends. The choux came in vanilla, chocolate, and coffee so there was a flavor for everyone from the youngest to the oldest partier and ages ranged from19 to 60 years old. Chocolate and vanilla eclairs and even a St Patrick's Day eclair with Bailey's & Whiskey which my husband loved, loved, loved! My daughter's Framboise cake was absolutely perfect for her as she loves a strong raspberry punch and it absolutely delivered and exceeded her expectations on every level. The Napoleon and Paris Brest were delicious too! A rhubarb tart was a uniquely divine experience as well. Our friends raved about it. The fresh chocolate, butter, and cinnamon croissants were truly extraordinary. The tuile almond cookie was divine! We enjoyed coffee, pellegrino, water, and Coke to drink. We had so much leftover to take home that our friends left with a lime pie tart and coffee choux. We left with a baguette, pan de mie sliced bread fresh out of the oven, quiche Lorraine, croque monsieur, vanilla choux, chocolate choux, and a raspberry tart. We even got a bag to take our baked treasures home with us. I highly recommend going to the La Brioche bakery in Norfolk's Neon District . We weren't disappointed and all of our expectations were exceeded! OMG, we just had some of the baguette for dinner and we all agreed that we've never really had a real baguette before today. The croque monsieur and quiche Lorraine were amazing as well. Everything we've ordered and eaten from this fine establishment has not disappointed and has been a truly enjoyable...
Read moreThis is my first time giving a bad review. We visit here frequently and look forward to getting our weekend morning pastries because it is my favorite pastry shop in Norfolk. However, it was a negative experience for us; the young man serving pastry was impolite. We wanted an eclair, but we couldn't tell whether one was chocolate because the other one looked similar. Also, some of the pastries I recognized were incorrectly labeled and we also didn't want the young man to think he was referring to the wrong pastry, so we said, "The second eclair from the right." He gave us a nasty tone and said, "chocolate cream," but we weren't sure if that was the pastry's name, so he repeated it in a way that was more like a subtle yell of annoyance, like, we are very sorry, sir.. Consider the possibility that not everyone is as familiar with the things you are. What about those newcomers who aren't entirely sure what it's called? Considering that we were the only customers at the time, we could have comprehended if there people behind us. And it is not necessary to snap at the consumers if he is in a particularly terrible mood at the moment. He doesn't have to spoil other people's enjoyable weekends. We just started our day well, and that was a shocker.
We also like to thank the other staff members who ran there; they were pleasant. The only unpleasant encounter we had there was with the young man who was serving at...
