I realize that now is a difficult time for restaurants and I wanted to give my business to a local restaurant to offer support during this difficult time.
Unfortunately, I ordered through Doordash and my instructions were not followed. I realize that some people may prefer to have their food left on their doorstep, but I am not one of those people. I feel that food that has been set on the ground is contaminated and must be disposed of accordingly. If there wasn't an option to "hand to me," I would have waited at my door to receive it before that could have happened, but because there was an option, I thought it was safe to wait upstairs and watch TV until it arrived.
What happened was my delivery notification came in on my phone, but I went downstairs and didn't see a car through the window, so I went back upstairs and figured it was notifying that the Dasher was on the way. I got caught up in my show and forgot about it. When my show was over, I was wondering where my food was and thought the driver might have gotten lost or something. I opened the door... and found a pizza box on the doorstep. I have a fully functional doorbell and I would have heard a knock. The instructions weren't followed and now I'm hungry, angry, and with a $42 charge for a pizza I had already disposed of.
I called The Rock Wood Fired Pizza and explained the situation. The person said I needed to contact Doordash, which I had already done, but I was concerned about eating, not a refund. She said she couldn't help me and couldn't refund the order. I asked to speak to the manager. She said she was the manager. Her lack of consideration for my plight and rude tone made me very upset and I was trying to give their establishment the opportunity to resolve the issue.
I told her that I wouldn't be giving her my business again and hung up the phone. Now, I have a credit (supposedly) coming from Doordash, but I am so burned on The Rock Wood Fired Pizza, that I wouldn't give them my business in the future even if they offered me a free pizza for my trouble (possibly after reading this review). It's one thing if I had complications, but not offering any sympathy or apology to a customer that is having a bad experience and offering NOTHING as a solution is UNACCEPTABLE, even in this difficult time. When a restaurant burns me like this, it's a lifetime blacklist. I refuse to support any establishment that doesn't value its customers.
I guess I'll be going to McDonald's since I'm starving and can't last another 30-40 minutes ordering from somewhere else. At least I know I'll get any potential problems handled when I'm dealing with a respectable...
Read moreTL;DR: Don't. Just don't with this The Rock. I'm told other locations are better, but this was a hilariously bad meal that careened from problem to problem.
Let me start with what went ok. The service staff was great, constantly refilling drinks and checking on us regularly. Things went well there up until the bill. More on that later.
First up, the restaurant was dark and dingy, and the décor was militaristic enough to make my dining companion uncomfortable. Evidently that's not normal décor for The Rock. Pizza, with a side of jingoism!
The prices were expensive for pizza (and everything else), which would have mattered a lot less to us if we actually got what we ordered. I got a "garlic bread" starter and my companion ordered a 16" pizza.
The "garlic bread" turned out to be a small cheese pizza with garlic butter. There wasn't a trace of color to be found on that crust or bottom. The only way I knew it was wood fired was that the name of the restaurant says it was "wood fired."
The same held true of my companion's pizza. Not a scrap of char or color to the crust or toppings. Also, as you'll recall, his was supposed to be 16 inches. Now, I'm no size queen, but I know when someone's lying about their length. Achem. A quick AR measurement with my phone showed we had a 13" pizza. That's nearly 70 square inches less pizza. For a LOT of money.
Even the server noted that it was no 16" pizza and offered us a refire. Sadly, the replacement pizza that came out was also only about 14". And as pale as a starving vampire. At this point we weren't going to complain.
But then came the bill. As my buddy finished paying, I noticed that the handheld point of sale had charged him $100 on a $50 bill. This started a whole new round of the nightmare as the manager tried to refund the extra items that had been added to our bill. Except that the refund wasn't for the correct amount. The software was still overcharging even with the additional items removed.
So finally we got them to cancel the whole check and recharge the card (which is what you're supposed to do in the first place).
I think dinner ended up taking us two hours between the refire on the pizza and the half an hour of wasted time on the erroneous bill.
My friend said, "I'm never coming back...
Read moreI hate writing bad reviews, but unfortunately there hasn’t ever been a place more deserving of one. I just want to warn people in the neighborhood before they waste their time and money on this place, like I have.
I’ve been checking into this place periodically over the past 3 years since I moved to the area. Hoping they improve. And almost every time I go, one thing may get better, while everything else gets worse. I went this past weekend, and that will be the last time.
The entire place, including my table, is dirty. The bathrooms are disgusting.
My pizza (The pride and joy) had holes in the bottom. How does a pizza have holes? It was missing toppings I had added (procuitto), and had the toppings I had requested be removed, still on (olives). Took over 4Mims, and I was hungry, so I ate it.
The servers that did an awesome job when I was here last were all gone. Along with the female Bartender that was one of best bartenders this place has had, also gone. I can only imagine they all left due to probably making no money because the food is constantly screwed up. That, and they were always running around nonstop with seemingly no help.
The new staff seemed confused and stressed, which doesn’t lead to a good environment for anyone to enjoy themselves. They were inattentive and I had to wait over 20 mins to even ask for a refill on my drink, which took another 10 or so minutes after to receive. Every time I come in here, the place has an entirely new staff. Everything is overpriced. The happy hour sucks, and I just honestly don’t have one single good thing to say about this place. I live 2 blocks away. I wish this had anything redeeming to it, because of how convenient it this would be as a regular spot for me. But I’d rather just go across th street to Papa John’s. Get a fully cooked, hole-free pizza and cookie tray for less than half the price. With half the chaos. Or to Spartas.
Don’t waste your time. This place has never gotten better, in 3 years, and it never will. I wish they’d just hang up the towel so something better could...
