ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL! This was the most perfect end to a perfect evening with my wife. They didn't know that my wife & I are on a much belated honeymoon for our 25th anniversary but they sure treated us like it was special; like WE were special.
First, it was late; about 20 minutes til midnight but we needed to eat. After calling some places whose kitchens had already closed, we called here where we were cheerfully greeted on the phone. We were allowed to order even though the kitchen was about to close at midnight. Jersey, the bartender who answered and who waited on us as well, was super amazing over the phone. We immediately felt welcome and had not yet even arrived.
Second, upon arrival, we were met by Jersey when we entered with a friendly, professional personality that felt like family. She took our drink order & allowed us to choose our seating. Her bartending skills are top notch by the way.
Third, when we received our food (2 pork chop specials; one grilled, one fried along with rice & gravy and FRESH, YES FRESH green beans with toast) the portions were larger than expected and well placed on the large, square plate. In additon we had ordered a basket of fries and a specialty which they affectionately call, "A cup of crack" which is much like a baked potato in a cup. The fries were excellent but after having the specialty, I understood why they call it that. It's ADDICTIVELY good. The rice was well made & the homemade gravy simply superb. The pork chops, whether grilled or fried, were simply perfect; cooked perfectly throughout, each with their own wonderful flavor. The green beans were excellent and FRESH!. I expected the toast to be... well toast, but even it was above par in flavor.
Fourth, I got to meet the cook, who is affectionately known as "Slap". We were so grateful for the exceptional late meal and he did such an excellent job that it was nice to be able to thank him personally.
Finally, it is my opinion, that despite being a smaller venue bar & grill, Clubhouse Food and Spirits is at least on par with the larger venue establishments and perhaps even better because of the attentive service we received from Jersey in addition to the excellence of the quality of the food, it's phenomenal preparation and professional presentation. If I could give more than five stars, I'd gladly rate it six stars or more. Thank you Jersey & Slap for such an...
Read moreMy husband and I are locals and we eat at the clubhouse very often , especially on Monday nights ($.49 cent wing night) and we have never gotten bad service until tonight . The young girl serving couldn't stay off her cell phone long enough to pay attention to her customers, and I sat for 10 minutes waiting on a refill of tea and then got frustrated and finally went ask the bar tender if he minded asking our server to get off her phone long enough to take care of her customers. She told us her name but she talked so fast we couldn't understand what she said, but that was only after I mentioned I had never saw her before. The woman that is always there was unfortunately on vacation and we got stuck with crappy server. The wings were awesome as always, but that was honestly the highlight of the evening. I couldn't wait to leave which is not like me at all when we go eat here because I usually like to just sit and relax from a day of work. It would have been different if they were packed then I could understand having to wait on stuff, but there was only one person at the bar and one other couple in the building besides us. Like I said the server was too interested in her phone than making the customers happy. I even asked when Jeanine would be back from vacation and she said in a week and my comment was good we will be back when she gets back. Make sure you check to see who your server is going to be before you go in here, because no matter how busy they get when Jeanine is there nobody has to wait. She is awesome!! I think the server tonight was Jamie or Jane or something like that but honestly she didn't impress me enough to care. She needs a new job where you can get paid to be on your cell phone. She would fit right in! We have been eating here over 3 years and this is the first time I have ever had anything bad to say about this place. If I was management I would drop the server they had tonight like a bad...
Read moreMy friends and I (all WVU students) were visiting Myrtle and decided it'd be great fun to go to the WV themed bar to watch the WVU basketball game. We called ahead seeing if they'd be able to accommodate 9 of us and the man on the phone excitedly said yes. Upon arriving, the woman at the front (who was the manager and our waitress) waved us off in to the corner and looked annoyed that we were there. She came to our table and sternly told us that if we were drinking she'd need IDs, which makes sense, but she had an attitude about it. When we started ordering drinks she immediately started accusing us of being underage because "we looked too young" even though we all had VALID IDs. When the drinks came she slammed them on the table and ran away without even asking the last half of the table what they'd like. One of my friends had to go to the bar to order her drinks. When the manager/waitress finally came back she asked "why my friend would drink that many drinks by themself" when there was actual special on those drinks that night. We ended up leaving right after she started arguing with us about "looking young" and "ordering too many drinks per person" and how she was unwelcoming and judgmental. On the way out she accused another friend of not paying for his drink when he had just left the money on the table. She made him go back and grab the cash and bring it to her before exclaiming "your parents should be ashamed of you" before we walked out the door and went to a great grill and bar down the road...
